what does the manual specify for recommended fuel
is it 95 or 98 ron
what fuel is the best and what octane ratings are they out of curiosity?
i have tried mobil premuim and bp super, but due to conflicting opinions i have steered clear of optimax
i noe the mobil and bp ones have like gimmicky names an stuff like "BP ultimate" etc.
are these differeent from the "premium unleaded" and "super" because at the closest pettystation, they only have these ones and not the gimmicky named ones
thanks in advance

the manual bases all of its tuning specs (eg timing) on 98RON fuel.
but you can run it on whatever you want really, just adjust the engine to suit. I run mine on Mobil 8000 (98ron), timing is at about 18deg BTDC @ 600rpm (advance disconected).

Ed, it wouldn't be 98RON? That grade of fuel wasn't even around when the Supra came out was it?

yeah, it is written for 98RON belive it or not
its hidden away somehwere in the owners handbook (the little green book) i think...
i was having tuning problems when i originally bought the car. i set everything to factory spec, and she was pinging her tits off. and this was after extensive combustion chamber cleaning, new plugs, injector clean etc etc ...
then i stumbled upon the line in the book..."98RON"
fixed everything (as it would)

Maybe the toyota boys assumed we had 98RON here already.
Also remember to steer clear of Caltex Vortex once the timing is advanced, its 95RON if i remember correctly, anyways, its not a true premium unleaded and boy did my car run like shite on that tank.

My 5M-E always ran on regular unleaded and I didn't have any problems. That engine has a rather low compression ratio so I doubt high-octane fuel is really necessary!

im in the same boat as norbie..my 5me i ran on shell optimax for a while after wheening off the LRP...and then got onto normal ulp...seemed to work fine...you'll tend to find if an older engine doesnt like the ulp, it will start to "ping".
