Oh, and i have the wiring diagrams of the US 1977 celica (as seen on my desk) which shows a coil+ignitor which also uses an external resistor. (like the 5M-E style coil+ingitor)
I am confuzzled, since i have never played with electronic ignition at all....

your black and red wire is ignition and the other one is your tacho output

if the ignitor is not compatible with your 22r-e internals(dizzy) - i have a ciol/ignitor from a 22r-e.
You did use the leaded 22r-e dizzy didn't you?

dude - leaded, unleaded - i assume it would make little to no difference. The dizzy's i have available are from unknown RT-142's.
I have also since found out that i need to use the condenser with this coil+ignitor setup (which i did get thank god). I haven't bunged it in yet, but i might later tonite or fisrt thing tomorrow.

the difference is the unleaded 22re's used the tccs efi which had electronic spark timing (to vacume or mechanical advance)

no this one is definitely vacuum advance. It's the UBER cool dual diaphram vacuum advance too!
And yes of course it was from an analog EFI 22R-E.
I just ripped out the magnetic pickup and star wheel, and bunged them into an old 18R-C points dizzy.
In any case.. i will find out soon enough if it works
thanks

IT WORKS!
tried, tested, and fully operational.
Indeed the black/red wire goes to the black/yellow wire from the RA28 (which is ignition), and the black goes to the black on the RA28 (tacho).
AS WELL AS THIS! a condenser is required from the 21R-C also. These are a 2 wire semiconductor looking device that is usually bolted down on one of the mounting tabs of the coil. It goes between the ignition feed to the coil and earth.
And my word has it made an improvement. I can happily rev above 6000rpm now!

How important is that condensor? I recently wired up a 5me and didn't add this, just figured it might stop some electrical noise in the radio etc.. But is there more to it than that??

basically thats all it is for on an electronic system. It is very important to have a condensor on a points system thou.

if you have points and no condensor - bye bye points!!
You get MEGA voltage builtup on the points and they arc out.
I figured i wanted the condensor because i HATE engine noise in my stereo

dude - i couldn't have been ANY EASIER!
it was all screw out and unclip - then screw in and clip in! SO SIMPLE! Everything fits perfectly from the RT-142 corona!
