Gday all,
Friend is currently putting a 100kw 4age into an aussie ae86, wondering what cheap but desent brake upgrades can be done.
Any ever done or seen someone put the ae92 sx discs and calipers onto an ae86 ? we've found some at a wreckers but still not sure if they'll fit.
Thanks in advance for any help/advice,
Seeks.

they definately wont fit without substantial modification. the most cost effective upgrade for the sprinter is the hilux 4 piston upgrade which was originally desinged for celicas but i have adapted for the sprinter and youll find the article on how to do it in the gallery section somewhere. its relatively easy to do yourself if you have access to the equipment, i am currently doing one for someone from this forum for their KE70 and it will cost a bit over 1K with mostly seconhand parts but brand new brembo discs.

Gday,
Thanks for the quick reply. Looks like we have a little bit of research to do with the hilux stuff, i'll check out the doc file in the resources.
Thanks again,
Seeks.

Hey, Hey
It's an AE71 thanks EVOSTi...
Don't associate me with that common trash!!!!
(Just kidding any of you ke70 owners out there)
From what i understand, you wont be able to fit any brake setup from a FWD corolla to a RWD corolla... it's got something to do with the way the driveshaft, axle and something else (i can't think of the bloody name of it) hold the brake setup in place. That's sounds a bit dodgy but EVOSTi is the man to talk to about the hilux setup.
Good luck
P.S. why doesn't your friend go a gze instead???

i've got volvo 4-spot calipers on my car and they pull up sweet
the conversion is fairly simple too the whole setup cost me about $250 which included calipers, discs, overhaul kits and splitters
take the ae86 front hub & unbolt the disc from the back. knock out the wheel studs, machine the outer diameter of the hub down a few mm untill a tn magna vented disc can be slid over it.because the disc is now slid over the front of the hub instead of bolted to the back of it fwd wheel studs must be used
then make an adapter bracket out of 10mm steel to offset the caliper in the right position. then you have to split your original brake pipes into 2 using the splitters from rwd corollas(the ones mounted on the diff housing)

i have also heard of this volvo conversion done on a couple of sprinters. its probably the cheapest upgrade (next to the celica upgrade which isnt near as good IMO) but my main problem with it is making an adapter for the calipers. i realise ALOT of brake upgrades use adapter brackets but i think its a little dodgy and would rather use things that just bolt together.
however it would be interesting to have a weight comparison of the magna/volvo upgrade versus the pug/hilux upgrade.
one thing is, how much does the volvo upgrade change the offset? must you use FWD wheels? the main advantage of the hilux upgrade is you can still use RWD wheels as the offset stays the same and the track only varies slightly, i dont know about the volvo upgrade but you probably could too.

the wheel offset doesn't need to be changed
my 17s went back on no probs each wheel sits about 5 or 6mm
further out which is not much really

also an FC3S mazda RX7 provides a fairly easy swap
a little more $$ but better stopping force in the end

i wouldnt say the RX7 upgrade would be an easy swap really... but probably the best i know of but you definately pay for it. i got a quote from the place that does it in melbourne (cause apparently he was the best guy for the job) and it ended up being around $2200 which is only $100 cheaper than i paid for my sprinter in the first place.

yes well we all know sprinters arent cheap to own
2200 for that kind of stopping power isnt bas i spose
but youd be better buying all new gear and taking it to someone
or going at it yourself
