The Witzl's Yellow RA28 (with pics)

Well, this is my baby. And there is quite a little story behind it!
UPDATED 13/2/05
Well, the story goes something like this:
- Found through a contact of a contact found in Toymods
- Took 2 months of negotiation to get the sale
- Finally bought for $1700 in canberra with a busted G/box
- Was towed back to sydney on a car trailer
- Sat in my driveway for around 3 months while i worked on everything.
- Late Jan 2003: BIG THANKS to CamZH who helped me change the gearbox, clutch, and engine mounts.
- Feb 2nd: GOT IT REGISTERED!!
- Early Feb: removed and replaced complete suspenstion setup in favour of the setup from my previous RA28 (now wrecking!)
- Mid Feb: Removed 18R-C in favour of a newly purchased 18R-GU (thanks again CamZH!)
- Took around 10 days to get 18R-GU going (thanks to my then lack of knowledge on ignition and dizzy's)
- Replaced Solex's for my "spare" 45mm webers within 1 hour of the 18R-GU working
Things remained the same for a while.....
- 18th June 2003: fitted electronic igntion YAY REVS!
- 27th June 2003: backyard carby balance, hard to tell what difference it made but the dyno graph below gives an idea
- Late august: Oil change lead to BAAAD rattles.
- 19th Sept: Discovered potentially very bad piston movement in the engine. Time to do an engine swapsie!
- 22nd Sept: Took out existing 18R-GU for my spare 18R-GU.
- October 2003 sometime: engine went bang.
- Feb 2005: washed car, moved it to home for much more love and attention.
Basic specs of the car as is today:
Car: RA28 1977 Celica
Colour: Dodgy yellow multi-tone
Engine: 18R-GU twincam 8V
Engine goodies: varying... things are being upgraded heavily.
Transmission: Being upgraded
COLOR=blue]Suspension:[/COLOR] Stock front swaybar (for now, i have a spare 25mm waiting!), 18mm whiteline rear swaybar fitted, urethane bushes in some places, koni red ajustable shocks all round, lowered springs (needs more lowering at the rear).. upgrades on the way....
Wheels: Simmons F90 silver rims. 15x7" running 205/50/15 rubber
Interior: Custom everything in some way or another! Includes MA61 Supra seats, Nice steering wheel (thanks TurboRA28), completely repainted dash (was tan!), new carpet, mostly all retrimmed a few years ago by someone else.... and much more.
On the way: Lots of things.
Well here she is!

you get the EFI pics when that's all done. ATM all that gear is sitting in a box in my room being organised, cleaned and prepared. Most likely won't be done until after dyno day.

Yeah that's power at the wheels - so it's only a ROUGH guide as to how much power the car really has.
I'll be doing a 1/4 mile run soon i hope, so some more accurate figures should arise from that.
Sometime soon i'll get around to doing some EFI work, its totally been put on hold!!

Updates for the last month....
# Engine had been running a bit rough for the past month or so. There was a bit of a rattle that annoyed me, which i couldnt work out.
# After doing an oil change late august, the rattle got REALLY bad and started sounding very metallic
# 19th September, took the car to see Graham Wilkins, and decided that a bearing or something is gone, and a piston is possibly interfering with the head (OUCHY!)
# 22nd September. Removed the 18R-G with the bad rattle. Im going to put the spare 18R-GU i have into the car (its a bit smoky, but it works!) and use that in the interim.
New plans.... Im probably not going to use the factory EFI gear that i bought. Instead im going to have a go with the Megasquirt! After talking to oldcorollas i found it to be very easy.
How much fun are cars?

NOPE!
the EFI conversion is being put off till next march when i return from my 3 month holiday in the USA. Until then its going to run the old smoky motor with the good ol' webers!
I could do the conversion now, but i want to do it properly, and clean up the engine etc.
Lambolica - Them's go-fast stickers shit me to tears! damn hippie previous owner covering bad paint with stickers....

125hp is 93.2kw
1hp = 0.745699871kw
1kw = 1.34102209hp
is that enough decimal places? =P

yes michael, it runs!! albeit rather dodgily.
The engine in it right now is rather shagged after a dissy vacuum advance mishap (it unscrewed itself and popped out, pulling ignition timing up with it - PING PING PING @ 6000rpm!!)
No clint, it will never be lime green!
It wont be on the road for a while yet. Need to rebuild me an engine, do some other mods, and buy some damn rego..... give me a while!

did the efi ever happen?
also i read in a thread whilst searching these forums that you were going to use / adapt 22re efi gear to do it?
any truth? because i'm considering efi for future turbo reasons and dont fancy my bank balance or the rarity of 18rgeu gear...
cheers

nup i never got anywhere with it. I busted the engine before then.
It is possible to use the 22re electronics, but none of the manifolds and real engine bits will work. You are probably better off using a 2nd hand microtech and getting a quickish tune on it - more power and better economy!
My long term plan will go far beyond what the stock 18rgeu EFI gear can handle, but that's all still a fair way down the track.

okays then... bar original 18rg gear and custom made stuff whats a viable intake plenum / manifold to use / alter to do efi?
injectors and ecu / wiring isnt all that hard its just a viable donor manifold thats tricky.

just bringing this back to life.....
things are moving, albeit slowly. Plan is to have this back on the road before Toyota Fest in October (which is a long way off), im hoping less than 3 months
Re. 18rg efi manifolds..... well you COULD get something made up custom, but making the injector mounts and fuel rail stuff wouldnt be so easy. My thoughts were to use the bottom half of the EFI intake manifold and make a new top half with plenum... but that could ALL be changed and made custom.
Just depends what you want to spend!
P.S. it drove up the street a few times this month. I want i want.

Then do the EFI with the head that JMR's got (which I know was the plan anyway)
