Toyota make a few all alloy blocks, I'm assuming you mean something with a little bit of size as you suggested the V6 and 1UZFE.

Excluding the mucho-$ 1GZFE, the next cheapest would probably be the 3UZFE. For the extra price it wouldn't be worth it atm over a 1UZFE. The Toyota V6's aren't known for their strength really, and their other engines are smaller.

There are always the Nissan VQ series of V6's, the new ones like in the 350Z. They also make the VH (?) series of 4.1l V8 and 4.5l V8, but from most accounts these aren't built to the same standard as a 1UZFE....actually, not much is Razz

Also the V series V8s. All alloy, OHV V8 (like a small Hemi V8). 2.6 thru to 3.9 litre capacity.

I think the Nissan V8s powering the Infiniti are actually termed VG45DE...The early ones are simply not worth it, as the engine runs a timing chain with a plastic Shocked timing chain tensioner which, on higher mileage units, has been known to let go, with predictably catastrophic results...

Like all OHV engines, they aren't really worth it without throwing major $$ at them. For example, I think the 3.9lt's power output stock is around 125KW...

The ZZ series engines are also all alloy.

Biased99: Nissan's V8 is actually the VH series (eg VH45DE). The VG series is the V6 (as used in the 300ZX for example).

Woohoo! How can I remember so much useless crap about engine models, and specs, yet not put this memory to good use with uni stuff?

Whoops... Embarassed (Still the rest of the point re: timing chains et al is valid...)

Which engines are the VQ-series, then?

VQ series is the new line of all-alloy V6's, used in the 350Z, the Maxima and the Skylines.

Oh, and the JGTC Skylines run a VQ30DET(T?) Smile

my mate has a VQ30Det in his laurel. they have around 195kw standard but he has upgraded the turbo to an sti one, wolf 3d (barely tuned), exhaust and FMIC. It is pretty good, but i much prefer the smoothness of the straight 6 like my 1jz. It doesn't seem to make as much power but the boost comes on very early for a single turbo. it also has a timing chain not a belt.

later

The 1MZ-FE from the V6 Camry uses an alloy block. It was one of the very few improvements over the 3VZ-FE it replaced.

Hey,

Soarer is right! 1MZ-FE is all Alloy 3 Litre V6 (Front Wheel Drive). They can be had with Manual or Auto.

A variation also comes in the Lexus ES300 now with VVT. (158KW/300Nm)

Very Smooth !!

Cheers
T.

Guys
If anybody has any Tech information/model details on the 1MZ-FE i would be very interested so far all i found out is a few power quotes and the weight of the motor ,.which is 151kg apparently

What cars do they come in and which ones are manual and Auto variations gear ratio's etc
or even a good link to them would be great

Does anybody know of a wrecker/importer with one,.so far i have come across one a couple of months ago and it was already sold

thanks
jamie

I think the main reason is they never came in a RWD car, not even any of the RWD Hiluxes have them either, only the 4WD versions.

Back to the 1UZ quickly - given that it's an alloy block - are the bores coated with some funky friction reducer, or are they LS1 style iron liners? I've only ever seen photos of an over-bored block, and couldn't tell wtfs going on Sad
