Maybe i should make a comment seeing as though i work at a Subaru dealership,
WRX's are firstly very good cars and are very reliable, we hardly ever get a car in with a problem compared to Nissan and Mercedes who seem to always be coming in on tow trucks,
you can take a look at group N in the Rally and see how well a WRX performs without any engine dramas,
this guy has to think about what he did, of course Subaru isn't going to pay for it as everyone knows with warranty that if you play around or tamper with anything then that voids it.
Also there is a way around this, if he put the standard exhaust back on before he took it to the Subaru Dealership then they wouldn't have known it had an exhaust on it at the time.
so it would be fixed by now.
and is this guy like most WRX wankers who drive it flat out thrashing the crap out of it then bring it in for a service where i then check the oil and nothing shows up on he dip stick? that would explain why there would be a bearing failure,
There is one way he could have avoided this whole thing and that is go to a STI dealer, where you can mod your WRX up to the bullshit with aftermarket computers, exhausts intercoolers, turbo's ect you name it and guess what???? because its done by a Subaru STI dealer it doesn't void the warranty so you can have your fully sick REX but still be covered under warranty.

I always said WRX's are built to a price tag, unlike some of our GT4's. Built TOYOTA TUFF

3sgte's seem to be super strong for a stock motor - from all the reports ive read the whole drivetrain bar clutch is super strong in GT4's of all models ..
If anything breaks ( like my driveshaft ) its a one off sheer bad luck incident. yet to read of a Gt4 or MR2 engine going bang ..
BTW - new price for a st185 was 45 grand in 1990 - what would that be roughly in todays money ? 65 - 70K ( ie STI wrx value ?) in comparison ?

Thats right Stu, about 65-70K todays money for sure.
How about the ST205 90K new in 1994, its scary to think what it'd be worth to buy new today.

Most magazines I've read actually rate the 3SGTE as a better engine than the lot of them, including the SR20DET. It just doesn't get the same sort of exposure, nor does it have the same sort of aftermarket support.
That said, I haven't heard of a lot of problems with a WRX engine when they are treated right. Their success and reliability in Group N is testament to this.

84K i think for a 205 that was delivered to Australia
Theve depreciated a lot more than the 185's and particular the 185 group a's which i find odd .. ( grey imports flooding a otherwise LTD market )
Saw one recently for 25K in geelong that id considered buying but it wasnt an Aus delivered one .
the Aus delivered 205's were a real " drive on saturday , race on sunday " car - the options list on them were VERY immpressive

Ed, you're absolutely right they are a better overall engine. There is stuff all aftermarket support only in Oz. In Japan, UK & US there are plenty of bits if you look hard enough.
Stu, I have the original invoice from the 1st owner for my car it says exactly "$88,850"
About the depreciation, dont go there i'm not happy about it.

I know that certain things can void warranty on certain parts of the car but an aftermarket exhaust voiding bottom end warranty is crap...
I know that lowering a car voids warranty on suspension, driveshafts and gearbox and diff components... Cause lowering makes all the suspension and g/box sit differently than stock...

nothing should come in 5.7L.
while on the topic of bumper stickers, another that disturbs me is "unless you're a haemoroid- get off my ass", these people obviously like/want haemoroids!
