sounds stock, but would be worth the cash if the paint and interior were in immaculate condition. If it looks like its in average condition, without any mods and without at least a twin cam engine then it wouldn't be worth $3k. Definately worth checking it out, but make sure he hasn't just repsrayed over rust .

so you think even with the rego, that price may be a bit much? Yeah it sounds stock so i'm guessing it it. What's the best way to check if the paint is just to hide rust? the old magnet trick? Not really relevant but what does silver paint on a TA22 look like?

I can help you on two fronts. First the value of these old celicas is very subjective and $3500 is a premium price for a car with stock mechanicals. I would advise patience, one owner, rust free cars can be found...I just bought one a couple weeks ago in Canada for $3000. There is one on ebay US right now. Doesn't need paint, looks great already and no one has screwed with it. I value that car much more than my modified TA22 that someone had dropped 8 grand on before I bought it from him for $3500.
There is no way to tell what is under that paint, 2 years from now you may discover that you have inherited someone elses nightmare.
Don't get me wrong I love my TA22....one of the reasons is how good it looks wearing 2001 Celica silver.

yep... the other thing is that they all sell on the first day they appear
check the trading post website tho, sometimes they slip through on the website before they make it to the paper. the car i bought wasn't meant to be advertised for another week but i found it on the web page and bought it before the ad even ran

That paintjob is sexah. On a related money note, I paid 3500 for this http://forums.toymods.org.au/index.php?t=msg&t h=15610 celica, but I think it was definately worth it considering the body has no rust, the paint is immaculate, and the engine was serviced regularly. I'm just hoping it will start nicely (its been on blocks for 4yrs).
But wow, that is an impressive paint job
