im thinking about puting a 1UZFE into my TA22(im also consiering many others too)i have seen a member here has done it and would like to know just what is involved, is there any parts that need to be fabricated other than engine mounts? which gearbox is used if not the stock item.

Unfortunately in NSW this conversion illegal. My understanding is that Jamie lives on the NSW/VIC border so gets the mod passed under VIC law.

There is a lot to be considered in the conversion and a lot that needs modifying eg sump, steering box to clear rear exhaust port' alternator, engine mounts, oil filter location, Radiator, maybe front swaybar shape depending on how u set up the alternator and sump
If u want to run a manual then Gearbox adaption plate or new bellhousing, flywheel, clutch assembly, rear crossmember and this will inturn alter tailshaft length
Height location is the most critical as the cank clears the crossmember by about 10mm and the inlet plenum clears the bonnet by about 10mm
but in total they fit rather well when in the bay
Grant is right i live on the Vic NSW Border and the car is registered in Vic
If u would like to know more detail about the conversion let me know as i have heaps of modified pics that i can email u
Hope this helps u make a decision

how does it go? ever had it down the 1/4? what was the cost of the basic conversion? did it affect the balance/ handling much? do you think a sr20det or 3sgte conversion would be cheaper/better?

so your running a manual box with it are you? I thought those V8's were only autos - so you used a custom flywheel and bellhousing? are you running factory computer? if so how does it cope with a different gearbox?

No, you are correct... 1UZ-FEs only ever came as autos, with the A340 transmissions...
I for one would definitely like some more info on your car, as I am determined to do a 1UZ into (something, not sure what), if/when I sell my Soarer...I'd like to know how your car goes.

Yeah the 1uzfe only came with auto trans A341E and A342E. If you want to use an aftermarket ECU I can recommend the Autronic. I also have a small ECU which can control the gearshifts on the Auto trans "tiptronic". So you push a button to change up a gear and another to change down a gear.

I don't know if you will have much chance using a PLC. Two of the solenoids you need to control are analogue, not just on/off. You also need to be able to calculate inputs such as engine load, speed and do some processing.
Toyota have all the info you need it it will be much more accurate than anything I can provide. Find the manuals for a LS400, UCF10 they should have all the info you require in the automatic trans section. This is where I found my info.
