Tomorrow I am pulling out a dead 4age from an AW11 automatic , What is the best way to go about this , Will the motor move away from the gearbox enough and clear the RH side body ( being a automatic it does not need to move away from the box as far as a manual )or does the motor and box have to be removed together. Any info tonight will be great as tomorrow it comes out !!
Thanks Trevor

righto, where do i start! yes take them out together. you will need a, block and tackle, car stands. heap of tools, lots of patience! you could start by , removing the battery, feul lines, brake booster line, all the coolant lines (drain from the radiator first saves a lot of mess), disconnect the plug for the engine fan, plug for the coil, small earth strap that bolts to the side panel next to coolant cap, ummm (i gotta remember it all in my head), earth strap from gearbox, speedo cable from gearbox, take the hoses of the thermastat housing (on top of the gearbox), unplug and take the afm out, there is two (by memory large electical blocks) to pull apart along side the battery tray, pull apart the reverse light plug, cant think what else to take out or pull apart from the top, but you will see things that need to be done just by looking at it. get under the car, take the exhaust system off, two bolts on the back mounts each side, the three nuts on the manifold, there should be a clamp style thing mounted to the backside of the engine in front of the flex pipe, to take off, then with a little man handleing take the exhaust system out. undo the four 12mm bolts holding the a/c compressor and tie it up to he metal coolant pipe that runs up the firewall (just as long as it's out of the way when you drop the engine down), drain the gearbox of oil, loosen the rear wheel nuts, jack the rear up in the air, put a stand under each side (preferably under the lower arm), you could remove the transaxle protector (pass side) and then undo both the drive axle bolts , there is six on each side,(you will see the ones i mean) from the gearbox and tie them out of the way. or you could take the tyres off, (on both sides) remove the cotter pin and axle lock nut cap, undo the axle nut (put a large screw driver or bar accross two of the wheel studs, so it rests on the floor, to stop the axle from turning) use a breaker bar and socket to undo the axle nut, hold the axle shaft, and tap it out of the axle hub with a plastic mallet.(you still need to undo the six bolts holding the drive shafts to the box)put them somewhere. i took the drive shafts right out as i've just explained then, at least they're out of the way. you need to pull off the retaining clip, and remove the retainer and disconnect the control cable from the bracket(front side of gearbox, gear selector). take the clutch slave cylinder off. ummmm. put your block and tackle to he engine take the weight, undo the mount on the front side of the eng/gearbox, undo the mount on the rear side, undo the end gearbox mounts(from underneath), undo the three mount bolts at the cam end of the eng(one from the top,two from below. if you see more things that need to be taken off or held out the way, sorry if i didnt mention them. slowly lower the eng/box to the ground.(put a peice off ply under it, makes it easier to drag out later). once the engine/gearbox is resting on the ground. block and tackle the car,(i put chains down through the lower suspension), lift the car in the air. drag the eng/gearbox out, then you can lower it back down, even put the tyres back on so you can move the car around. then you can seperate the box from the engine or what ever you want to do. (just make sure you put a 4agze back in!)hehe.
i hope this post is not TO long, hope it helps, have fun.
* bit more, be safer to have the car up on ramps, til you are ready to pull the drive shafts out, they move around a bit when your pushing and pulling trying to undo nuts n bolts. would hate for you to have to bench press a mr2.

feral4mr2 Thanks for all the info but I didnt get to reed it untill tonight as went off early in morning to pull the dead 4AGE out , Anyway I decided to pull out the motor and leave the box in , I have access to a 4 post hoist so that makes things a lot easer , I put it up on the hoist and undun every thing and pulled it out through the bottom , The 4age may be a light motor but when standing under a hoist ( there were two of us ) and pulled the motor off the box the weight is a lot heaver when it just drops out and you have to hold it above your head and then try to lower it down , Anyhow we then decided to put the other motor ( 4AGTE )in through the top and was easyer than puttin in a rearwheel drive motor so in and out from the top is the way to go ( using an engine crane ) .
