Hello again. Still asking about 7M's in general. My friend is kind of panicky about buying a car, because he thinks that 155000km is a lot for an engine.

The engine is a 7MGTE, its got a metal head gasket, ARP head studs, all the seals in the head have been replaced, the turbo has been rebuilt, and as long as the current owner has had it, its seen oil changes every 5000km, plug changes every 10000km and has always used Toyota "red" coolant.

I know hes just being cautious, and everything he knows is based on his fathers experience with engines in Commodores, but we all know they aren't quite built to the same standard.

Is it really something to worry about? Looking for honest opinions here.

Thanks,
Nathan

in canada the 7mgte came in mk3 supras..

just so we're on teh same page.

these cars can be very nice.. bit of a pain to work on when you're use to a mk2 or ra6.. but still quick, and comfortable.

The one thing i'll say about mk3's tho, they may be nice, but if they aren't in great condition and well maintained, they can be expensive to bring back to great condition, because of all the widgets..

Sounds like it has been well looked after. You can do all the usual things if you are really worried, like dry and wet compression test to determine ring sealing etc.

Provided that there has been no significant boost increase and there is no plan to then it should all be ok.

Auto or manual?
Generally autos keep better because the engine doesnt get revved as hard.

From what I could think, japanese engines (4cyl) show more wear for the same amount of kays compared to early holden and fords coz they rev alot harder. If would be unfair to compare a holden red which got 400 000kms (I know of one that has done better Very Happy ) with a 3cyl charade that got 200 000kms.

Cheers.

Sounds like its been well looked after, shouldn't be any issues. Good to see they've used the red coolant!

150,000kms isn't much, mines got about 200,000kms on it and its happily pushing out the gee gee's!
