20 valve conversion in ae93 Sat, 21 June 2003 23:22 Go to next message
Hello, i am currently planning my 20 valve conversion in my ae93 (sx) corolla. The car currently has a 16 valve 4age. I'm just trying to find out some of the problems that I might run in to. I understand that the exhaust manifold is different so that will need to be sorted out. can i use my current gear box? what other things will need to be changed that won't just bolt up?

thanks, any advice is greatly appreciated.

everything will bolt up.

you can even use the 20v gearbox.

the wiring is just the tricky bit but there are plenty of ppl who could do it in a few hrs.

Cool

so are the 16v and 20v gear boxes identical? & am i right in beleiving that the exhaust manifolds are different? so this should only really be a weekend job to get it running?

also does anyone know of any decent 20 valves for sale? or know of a decent importer to purchase one from (no front cut) that also has good prices?

thanks
cameron

the gearbox's are different but only in the ratios i htink.

smallport is c50 and silvertop is c52.

the exhaust manifolds are slightly diff but why is this a prob? just swap the whole motor over.

it can be done in a weekend in a sx easy. Just make sure your preperation is well prepared.

all sounds good so far. all i've got to do is find an engine Smile I have seen the for around the $1000 mark from some importers although i am sure that they are available slightly cheeper. also, what does a stock 16 valve sell for these days? as i will get rid of mine once i have the new engine. Anyone know where i could purchase some 'sx twincam 20' stickers to replace the 'sx twincam 16' stickers on my doors and hatch?

20 valve gearbox bolts straight up...?
I heard that you need to modify the crossmember to fit in...
but don't quote me on that...

i think you only need to modify the cross member when putting in the GZE and GZE box
