Someone a while ago had a stone flicked up and it absolutely munched everything
cant remember exact details
its there for a reason
manufacturers dont throw in extra unnecesary things to increase the price of a car for the sake of it

Well you know when you go out with ya girlfriend and things get a bit hot and steamy so you get out and jump on the bonnet and get it on, well if you have a bonnet vent things could get a bit nasty if you miss what your aiming for and slip through the vent and that cam belt cover isn't on

you obviously speak from experience , but i would be guessing if you left the engine running the bonnet would be quite hot

You could always cut the front out and fit a piece of clear perspex.

yes leave it on. i know it looks cool if you really wanna see whats going on in there, get a 2nd hand one and get some perspex put in the front of it?
reason for leaving it on.....well if a rock gets between the belt and the gears and the timing shifts/skips, then extremely bad thing can happen....

The 4AGE's are no interference which means the values wont meet with the pistons if the timing belt snaps.

I haven't run a cover of any sort for over ten years and never had a problem, even with some car club runs on dirt.
It actually saved the engine once - I made a mistake with the cam seals and some oil was getting onto the cam belt, making it wear down a lot faster than normal. I spotted it easily one day (the belt was only perhaps a couple of weeks from failing) and chenged the blet before it was a problem.

Pretty much the same as Bill I rarely run with the covers on, and even after this Teeth Broken happened I still dont use one... lucky the mighty 4A's run non-interferance
