does anyone know which is the best ripper for cd to mp3/wav etc and wav/mp3 to cd...which works well...no pops, scratches----preferrably freeware

grip works well. You need Linux though...
I've used Easy CD-DA Extractor and it's worked well. No complaints from me.

also if you want to burn audio cd's form mp3's you dont need a specific decoder (like in the old days...) cause nero will do it automatically when you do an audio burn and just drag and drop mp3s into the list...
speaking of old days i remember when burning at 2x - that took half an hour or more, AND THAT WAS QUICK!
now it takes me a minute or two at 48x...
and before that encoding an mp3 took a little under 10 mins... alright that was my own fault i had a bad encoder...

i cant take the credit for that. wasnt my work. but yeh, its very good!!! when i seen this topic, i checked that bookmark, before he only had step by step, but now he's done the whole flash thingo.. not bad!
its a guy i used to d/l a lot of cds off. he was the cd ripping god in my eyes
