4AGE head gasket - help please.. Tue, 24 June 2003 02:12 Go to next message
Well my buddy just got some bad news for his SX corolla. Yep, small traces of CO2 in the exhaust.

So we are thinking of just replacing it ourselves since that seems the cheapest way. He doesn't want to replace the motor as that would just cost too much. (Yes I searched the forum's and this thread http://forums.toymods.org.au/index.php?t=msg&t h=3952&rid=2485&S=62cd7e1d5166f9d1c4c2e0f2 6025d39b&pl_view=&start=0#msg_32173)

Basically it is recondition ourselves, or purchase a GZE and stick it in, which would cost way more. Anyway...

Any feedback would be much much appreciated. Sprintah, I think you did one of these recently?

Thanks - Rob

Rob,

If the head gasket's gone you won't need to take the Engine out.
Just take the Head off.

Buy a new Head Gasket from Toyota, get the head cleaned up, and bolt it back on.

You will need to know the Torque specs for the Head Bolts too.

Haynes Manual would probably have this info.

Cheers
T.

I did this in a day by my self.

My head didnt need any work tho...

Simple to do, minimal tools required, but you NEED a torque wrench! Get a Hayes, Gregorys or similar manual and start reading. Much cheaper then doing a whole recondition on the engine if you dont need to.

Get a good head gasket, and take the time to torque the head down correctly! And double check the timing before you turn the engine over! (its easy. should all be in the service manual)

Good luck!

Craig.
