Hey Tom, I use Polyglaze wash and wax to wash and Polyglaze (I think) polish to polish... I don't like tyre shine as it gets all over the rim and when driving, it gets all over the rear bumper... Shits me just after its been cleaned... Armour all to clean all the plastic bits... I don't really clean the seats, just vacuum them... Windex with paper towels to do the untinted and outside of the windows and a wet chamois to do teh inside tinted windows (as windex likes to fuck up) tinting...

Mmmm, I always go to car lovers, 'cos I used to work there, and I can still usually get a free wash up there. Windex is good for the windows, with a nice clean old towell, and a bit of rain'x on the windscreen (and hey, why not all the windows if you can be bothered) every now & then does wonders. I wanna try some Mequiars tyre shine, that stuff is supposed to be pretty good, in fact any Meguiars products are good.
As for paint, it's about time I got mine buffed & waxed, seeing as it's pretty new paint still.

well i just cut and polished my car yesterday. i bought some cutting compund from supercheap and a lambswool buffing pad and spread the cutting compund all over the car and cut it back with the lambswool pad in a leccy drill them rinsed the car down and rubbed it with an old teatowell at the same time to get all the compound off. then i covered it with Amway silicone glaze and hit it with the lambswool again( washed after the cutting compund of course) i was amazed how wel it came up brings a heap of life back to old paint.
i use armourall window cleaner to do my windows it is clear and it is also safe for tinting. and i use armourall for my interior bits. and rim cleaner and a metal scouring pad for the rims.

I got my car cleaning down pat except one thing. What do people use to clean the cloth trimmed seats with?
I'd also like to point out that when I clean my car it's inside and out. I believe in doing it properly.
Pretty freaky this thread actually. I gave the old beast a clean yesterday. I even went as far as giving my sister's pulsar a vacuum out too. I don't know why, I just felt like it.
I'm not going to clean it again next saturday. I'm going to enjoy my birthday and do nothing.

For Washing: Meguiars Soft Wash Gel Good Sponge Terry Towels Leather Chamois
For Tyres: Armour All spray on shite, I used it on the rims too hehe (Black ones).
For Windows (Tint Safe): Meguiars Window Cleaner Eagle 20/20 Window Cleaner
For Cloth Trim Seats: Wait till dirty... Call in ChemDry The one near me does a good job for $60 Entire Car incl Boot.
For Plastics: Static Cleaning wipes A little water on paper towel for any nasty marks
Note: I used to use those dressings for the dash and interior but found the following problems...
Glare on windscreen when driving on Sunny days. Park the car in the sun... Vapours stick to windscreen and cause shiny reflective areas that will smear across the windscreen when you unknowingly give it a quick wipe with your favorite window cleaner! MANY AN HOUR of elbow grease was needed to remove these dangerous reflective areas. They were killers at night due to oncoming traffic's lights causing the smear to be visible and hence making it nigh on impossible to see in that direction!
I am soon to give my car a cut and polish. I am looking for a good product to do this with...
Celica_RA40: How much was the buffing pad? Easy to get the action right? My first hand cut and polish was a disaster because i chose to do whole panels at a time can you say SWIRL?
Hope y'all have fun cleaning your cars. I was pissed off to spend 3 hours on Wednesday just to have it poor raining on Thursday, I forgot to check the weather report...

inertia i think it was about 16 bucks from supercheap. i bought the lambswool and a rubber mouting pad for it and it came to like $16 or around there. you can buy a propper buffing machine from auto barn for about 70 i tink and that cmes with a nice big pad on it and would be the right speed for the job too. i have heard you ahve to be careful not to burn the paintowrk with a buffing pad when you do it with a drill
some of the window cleaners like windex have ammonia in them and that is what roots the window tinting up.

Just remenber that armourall or any silicon based product will contaminate painted surfaces. You do not always see it in the paint but if you ever repaint the car you will have to take it back to bare metal and treat the metal or heat the silicon off. The silicon leaves little dots taht look like water inside the paint or little craters

I didn’t go to the trouble of typing this out a second time but I will pass it onto you guys. Its just so happens my sister just bought a new car and she asked me the same question three weeks ago. I’ve been washing and looking after my cars for what seems like years. I’ve tried every thing you can think of so heres a list of my favourite products used on the Celica. Like most people you tend to find the products you like the best and stick with them forever.
AION PLAS SYNTHETIC CHAMOIS'S (I really can’t stand leather chamois)
MEGUIARS SOFT GEL WASH (Pink in colour and smells like bubble gum)
KENCO JUMBO SPONGES (maybe buy two, they are cheap, any brand will do but this is what I have in the shed now)
KITTEN TYRE REJUVENATOR 300g (This is cheaper than the Meguiars tyre shine and does the trick. My brother tells me the new Meguiars one is the ducks guts and worth the money)
ARMOURALL (500ml is usually best value for money unless you can pour 4 bottles into a 2 litre milk carton and trick the bastards, little trick from the old days)
TWIN PACK OF MEGUIARS HAND APPLICATOR PADS (Must be keep dust and crap free, these don't last that long)
MEGUIARS DEEP CRYSTAL WETLOOK #2 (check out their website because choosing the right Meguiars polish can be a real science depending on the paintjob. I have several different types but some are just too expensive to mention)
MEGUIARS CARBANNA WAX (this stuff is great shit, if only you could put it on your toast for breakfast)
KITTEN NON ACID WHEEL CLEANER (totally optional, in fact I just use soapy water and an old sponge with my alloy wheels)
REAL BABY NAPPIES (Yes the trade secret is out, these bloody things are not cheap but if total perfection is your bag you’ll need some. Head to the kid section for these suckers)
TWIN PACK OF HOME BRAND PAPER TOWEL. (Used for cleaning the windows, my brother steals the ones from McDonalds, he thinks they are the best for the job and there are free, probably true)
WINDOW CLEANER (I use Amway which a neighbour gave me for free. I’ve tried heaps of shit and some are just plain disastrous. I may try the Meguiars version when the Amyway shit runs out. I don’t have tinted windows)
BRAND NEW BUCKET (keep this bad boy away from the dog as contamination will kill a show quality paint job)
Buying cleaning gear products is the easy part. There are not cheap but worth the money in the long run. The secret is the application and user technique. Products are designed for the type of paint you have so make sure you get it right and do your homework. To wash and polish my Celica, it can take all bloody day, which really pisses off the wife. It’s a fine art and I don’t plan on sharing my trade secrets. When the lucky few get to see the car later this year in Brissy you see what I mean. I’m sure you’ll be all printing this puppy off and heading to your local K-mart to stock up on the above.
Cheers guys and girls
Justin
ps yes another dull day in the office with nothing to do.

All those who recommend Meguiars products:
I also use Meguiars, and recommend a three step method (after washing with Soft Wash Gel)
Step 1. Paint cleaner (use every 6 months) Step 2. Deep gloss polish Step 3. Carnuba wax
The only problem is that Meguiars products are so pricey.
What do you guys think about K-Mart having 15% off sometimes? Is that the best time to buy Meguiars? What about Supercheap 20% off days?

i didn't bother to read nay of the above replies, so sorry if i've said anything that has already been said.
i use polyglaze power wash (separate blue and red in same bottle)
if you are fussy (you should be) never use a combination polish/wax. always polish your car separatly, and then maintain it with a dedicated wax, either pure carnuba or a silicon based wax blend. also, i like to use paste wax from tins instead of liquid wax in bottles, longer lasting, or if for nothing else except it lasts longer, and at the price of this stuff, save as much money as you can.
i use meguiars professional range. they use a numbering sequence to make things easy. example. i use no.5 medium rubbing compound on stubbon marks, then a no.9 swirl remover. then onto a wax, no.26 yellow wax paste. check out this range, the stuff is mint
tyres get done with meguiars endurance, and i can't rave more about it. the tyres stay shiny even after being scrubbed clean with hot water and car wash on a sponge.
and for the chrome work (i have a TA22, there's acres of it) Mothers Chrome Polish. this stuff is not cheap $12 for 236mL. it makes chrome come up nice, and even actually resists marks left by finger prints etc, unlike metal polish like autosol.
well after all this info, i'm sure you are ready for bed, but if not get out there and buy some good stuff, it's not cheap, but can pay off with the final appearance you'll get.

I use Turtle Wax emerald car wash with wax in it. I think they are a load but my car comes out shinier anyway.
Then I use Meguirs Quik Wax in between wax jobs.
And if I'm too lazy to wash my car I use Meguirs Quik Detailer (Unless it's filthy) to clean my car. Good for fingerprints.
I use big sponges and a leather chammy.
I also use Meguirs ScratchX when needed.
I also use Meguirs Endurance tyre shine thing which I reckon is CRAP!
To wax the car I use Meguirs Yellow wax or whatever, professional something.
I use Windex for windows.
I use Degreaser for my wheels. There's also this acid thing which I had a bottle of which was AMAZING!!!
For the interior I use a mini vac and ummm....damn, forgot! But it foams and u can rub it and it works really good. Thats for carpet...for plastics and rubber I use this thing similar to Amorall.
To cut and polish my car, I use a detailer, coz my paint is black and I tried myself and it didn't come out as good. The stuff I used was the Meguirs range. If I washed the car and waxed it, it would have looked the same as me spending 2 days cutting, buffing, polishing, buffing, waxing, buffing...buff buff buff
Anyways...I have also used lots of CRAPPY products.
1. Meguirs Gold glass car wash. This stuff SUX! Makes the paint TOTALLY DULL! Horrible stuff! I'll only use it if I run out of Turtle wax car wash.
2. Meguirs Gold class wax. This stuff is okay if u like that mirror finish. I don't like it, I like deep glossy, shiny finishes. This stuff makes ur car look reflective which is desirable to some.
3. Meguirs Endurance tyre shine. This stuff looks awesome.....for about 2 days! The second you drive anywhere thats dusty or u leave ur car outside for a night, ur tyres are nice and dull again.
4. Turtle Wax scratch remover. My car is black so I got a black pack...which has black liquid wax and a black wax chap stick kinda thing. Basically you rub the wax on the scratch and it helps hide it. What a load of shit!!! One application of ScratchX did more than 5 times going over with tis thing and putting the special black wax on it.
5. Wool mits to wash ur car. These suck and I have to get my car fully detailed to get rid of the swirls that it created from use of this thing! The bugger was the most expensive one too! Anyway, the swirls make the paint nice and shiny and u can see the pearl better, but swirls are swirls. HORRIBLE! ScratchX removes the swirls but I CBF going over the car especially when I'm booked in for a full detail on Monday.
6. Amorall sux! I use this thing which I forgot the name but it doesn't make ur car oily or look crap when ur car is in the sun. Amorall does something to the plastic where it looks like bubbles as though it makes each blob look good. Any part with no blob look dull???
I also have used Tutle Wax Emerald Wax. I like this stuff...it makes the paint nice and glossy. Kinda like the paint on the new Holdens. They have a rich texture. Also in the rain, it makes ur car look the nicest. Coz the water sit in bubbles which fly off the car when u drive.
I also use Scotch gard or something, I leave it in the glovebox. Basically u go over ur interior with it and it collects all the dust. Good stuff!!!
EDIT: I also use water before washing away.

1. wet the car with water 2. poliglaze wash and wax 3. wash the soap off 4. get all the water off (shammy) 5. use windex window cleaner on all the windows 6. use eagle one wheel cleaner for the mags 7. armorald spray for the tyres 8. armorald spray for the interior 9. vaccume the interior 10. polish the car
cant go wrong.

from what i've heard the best thing to use to clean things like dash pad, and other plastics, ISNT armorall. Armorall is apparently oil based and as such if u use too much or leave it in hot sun, it 'cooks/bakes' the plastic. The best thing to use is a damp chamois, just to wipe down the plastic, also dont use armorall on the plastic on the instrument cluster as it may turn it a misty white colour.
This info was passed on to me when i bought my vectra from holden and we asked what we should use to clean it.
I always use Meguiars Softwash gel, even on my old sprinter, and use like an old towel constantly rinsed, so ur not dragging dirt particles all over the car. And the best way to wash is from clean to dirty, ie. start on the cleaner parts of the car and work ur way to the underside/mudflaps, once again to prevent dirt particles dragging over the car. First thing i always do is rinse the car with plenty of water.
One thing i do , sometimes ,is i take a bucket, some old towels, chamois, and softgel, to the local carlovers and just use their high pressure water and wash the car there for like $6.
