TA22 Mods for a Pommie!

Hi all........
Stumbled accross this site in my never ending search for an early Celica here in the UK. This site is fantastic and there are some seriously great cars here! I shall be reading my way through it all in due course trying to learn some more, but anyway, I finally found one for sale:
http://mysite.freeserve.com/GaryGen1
What dya think?
I was wondering if you could tell me what simple modifications I can get away with? I want to first of all put some big wheels on, so can anyone recommend what I should be looking for? Is it wise to do such a thing without also improving other aspects, i.e suspension, brakes etc? I basically want to mod this car slowly over time, so is there a good route to take in doing so? Being the cars themselves, let alone the parts, are rare here in the UK, can anyone recommend what international new parts I can buy for it? Specifically wheels, exhaust, basic first level mods?
Eventually I will go the whole hog and get a modern Toyota engine in there, but for now I'd like to take the basic route.
Any help much appreciated! Keep up the good work!
Cheers

Welcome from the other end of the world.
Early Celicas were delivered to other European countries, so that might be your best bet for sourcing parts, otherwise if there is a part that you are desparate for, the exchange rate between Euro/Au$ and Euro/Yen is pretty good for you, so ask around you could probably get the parts shipped to you for a reasonable cost. Why not get the celica bits you want chucked into a MR2 3S-GTE half cut and import everything from Japan.
Simple mods for your car......where do you start.
Me I would make sure that the body work is rite, then do wheels and suspension. Then you will have a nice car to run around in.
The first performance mods I would do is improve the brakes. There is heaps of options available to you there, have a hunt through this site.
Then whack on a good exhaust and a couple of webbers and you'll be driving with a big grin
Best of luck with the car

Cheers!
So what wheels should I look for?
Does anybody know the correct offsets etc to get something like 16 inch alloys to fit, as I will probably be buying new wheels? Also, what size rubber goes on the relevant wheels?
Whats is the most ideal aftermarket exhaust to put on the car? Anyone know the actual new parts I should be looking for in terms of wheels, suspension, brakes and exhaust etc?

wheels are 114.3mm and about pos 20 offset.
there is a site on the internet that shows the difference between stock overall diameter and larger wider wheel diameter and the tyres required to keep the speedo accurate. only problem is i cant remember it try searching google for tyre converter or wheel converter, or someone may be able to give you the site.
hope this helps

As far as wheels and exhaust, most people in Aus get locally manufactured stuff, so what we suggest might be hard to come by.
I have seen a couple of early celica's with 15x7in minilites on them. They look really nice and have a fair amount of dish in them. You seem to have a much better range of minilites in the UK than we get here, I'de go for a big set of chrome/polished minilites.
As far as exhaust goes, I am not really sure what is available for you, You would have early corollas there, so I assume there is something available. Go for some good extractors/headers and a free flowing 2-2.5in pipe.

What do minilites look like? Have you got any pics? I am looking at rims for my RA28 and I want deep dish or at least as deep as I can go with the celica
