1jz manual vs auto wiring loom variations Wed, 25 June 2003 08:27 Go to next message
What is the difference between the two?

Can a manual ecu be plugged into the auto loom and work without running in limp mode? Simple alternation of the auto speed sensor?

It is just much cheaper buying and auto half cut and going from there. Any help appreciated.

The debate is 7mgte vs 1jz into the supra.

But i figure i will have to do the head gasket etc on the 7m, so if this can be done with the 1j it may be very viable.

i found you a fly wheel and i can get you a bell housing brand new for $380, the rpm clutch kit i got for my car (thrust bearing, clutch plate, 650 kg pressure plate) was $165 and i can get another one, the auto computer will work, it did just fine in my last one but it will run alittle rich and use a bit more fuel, however when i go aftermarket ill give you my manual ecu, nyway, ill talk to you about it later in this week, ps did you call those guys at miranda?

So your 1JZ 5spd (using an auto ECU), ran rich!?!?
At Idle aswell?? or just while driving??

I have a 1JZ with a JZA80 W58 running on a Auto ECU and it seems to run ruch at idle???

rich all the time
putting a manual ECU in gives smallish performance gains and big fuel economy gains

Interesting.
Any clues why??
O'well, I'll have to run more boost to use all the fuel I can!!!

someone asked me recently about this conversion

maybe one day if someone would pay me abit to sit down and figure out what signals come from the auto to the ecu

or maybe ill just do it in my spare time

does anyone know if the auto computerr runs the engin e richer
due to the settings and feul maps or is it that it runs in limp mode

if its in limp mode maybe one day we can check what readings the auto sends to the auto ecu for it to run
so we can then replicate these readings when using an auto ecu with a manual

i doubt it could be too difficult

it's 'cause it's in limp mode, as far as I know.

I considered doing that too... all you'd need is an auto 1jz to check the signal.

In the end I didn't bother tho, as I had a microtech going in

I think when the ECU detects anything abnormal they switch to a closed loop program and run a richer fuel program. Just like having your foot mashed to the floor perminantly.

not quite
limp mode runs richer than that, and also retards the timing

If it is running in 'limp mode' does the engine check light stay on??
My engine check light goes out when the engine is running. Doesn't flash or anything!?!?!

How do you know when it is in Limp mode then??
I'd imagine the engine check light should be on or flashing while the engine is running!!

nope!
the fact that it's less responsive and blows loads of smoke gives it away.
