TA22 Rear suspension advice Fri, 27 June 2003 00:15 Go to next message
Hi everyone,

After living with and loving having a locker in the car for the last six months or so, I decided to give the new gearbox I put in a half decent start in life and replaced it with a single spinner. And while changing it back, I found that even though I completely loved having the locker in the car, the car really didn't. As it has destroyed all the link and panard bushes.

So my question is, is it better to replace the bushes with rubber or nolathane or a combination of both?

Some people swear by the nolathane, then some other people say rubber is the way to go for the older japanese 4 link rear ends

I was just wondering what other people have done?

I have used Nolathane/Urethane bushes myself everywhere. The only thing to keep in mind is that when the bushes do start to wear they will not be as forgiving as rubber ones.

That said you might want to look around the pickup points for other signs of wear and tear and possibly add a few more welds in certain places.

Cheers

i concur with that - try some strengthening in there on the mounts ..
it sounds like its vibrating or putting too much strain on the mounting points ..

Or see a specialist suspension place ( not pedders ) someone who deals with locker difs like a race workshop ..

your a victorian ? if so theres an excellent old school race engineer in ballarat i could point you at ..

Thanks for the advise guys!

Classique 71, I'm in melbourne, but I have got freinds up in Ballarat, give us the name and number of that suspension place and I'll check it out next time I'm up that way.

Screw loose 22, its just a CIG locker, but if your still interested, let me know.
