My mate has a 1976 Celica with 18G..it is a 5 speed, so I was wondering what gearbox this would be? Would a W58 from a 84 RA65 (22RE) fit this car?

Hard to know without seeing it but it is likely to be a W50 ('steel case Celica 5 speed'). The W58 should fit in the tunnel and will use the same Xmember but I can't be certain of the bellhousing mating to the block...I know the 21R bellhousing will. Celicamad 85 could tell you - he is the 22R king.

The W58 will fit, but I'm pretty sure you need to fabricate a new crossmember as the W50 one won't fit. That's not a hard job by any means though.
