Hiya guys,
unusual request, but..
i'm looking for someone to bring a laptop (any speed, not running NT and has a serial port) to show a few ppl how the Megasquirt works. just need to copy a few files on, and then click a few buttons
i would bring my mighty P90, but it has no battery and i don't have a car adaptor
if anyone has something suitable they could bring along that i could use for like 5 mins, would be grateful (buy ya a sanger on the day )
Pm me.
Cya, Stewart
and also, if anyone is interested in having a look at the Megasquirt, let me know and we can organise a time on the day (depending on the above...)

Yeah mate I can bring mine along.. Only a P300 with XP but does the job. Has 2 batteries which gives it around 7 hours + life.
I'll hold you to the sanger!
Would also like to check out the megasquirt system.
Cheers
Joel

XP runs my DOS based Autronic software well.. I think NT just wasn't good with DOS based programs.

awesome thanks Joel i'm pretty sure that it works on XP, but i will make sure before then.
i'll bring the tuning software along (CD or floppy?) but you can also download it from
http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/megasquirt/fil es/MegaTune/
get the "megatune215.zip" it's about 240k in size.....
there's no install as such, just copy to a directory, or leave it zipped and we can do it on the day.
looking forward to showing ppl
thanks heaps!!

Dont forget... the laptop WILL need a serial port.
I know a lot of newer laptops dont have them.
If it has no serial port, a USB->Serial converter will work fine.

Does XP allow direct access to hardware ?
Since it is based on NT, it may still have this limitation, and prevent MegaSquirt from working. Haven't used XP enough to know if it will work or not. Just something to keep in mind.

Just to be safe, ill bring along a backup laptop just in case yours doesnt work Joel.
I too am interested to see how the megasquirt goes, i have been rather intruiged by them and thought about using one myself. Especially with the looming ignition controller soon to be available!
Would like to see just how dificult tuning and using the software is.

Just remember that Windows XP & Windows 2000(SP2+) has a compatability mode, right click on the icon on the desktop(and it has to be a shortcut to the program from the desktop), goto compatability mode & Choose the "Windows 98 Compatabilty Layer". You should be right

thanks heaps for all your help and suggestions guys
i'm going to try tonight on an XP puta... i'll try and get copies of other EFI software for comparison, (if anyone has some, bring it along) i'd be very interested to see what the interface is like compared to commercial stuff.
looking forward to it
oh, if anyone has specs for other systems, bring that along too (and manuals if possible)...
