icon5.gif  What to do do about engine mounts? Mon, 30 June 2003 01:36 Go to next message
Hey guys,

I've got my 1GEU currently sitting in the engine bay. The 1GGTEU will bolt straight to the mounts, but of course, theres no way I'm sticking a powerful engine like that on 20yo mounts!

I spoke to Toyota, and they can only sell me the whole bracket...at a price of $207 EACH ex-Japan (read: 3-4 week wait). I'll be off holidays by then, so thats not a viable option.

Can I just replace the rubber part? Does anyone else have any other solutions? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Nathan

Hi Nathan,

That can be a bitch, the rubber is kind of fused into the plate of the mount. well I think they are the type you may have. So just replacing the rubber bit is kind of not an option. I have heard rumours though that there are places than can do this....only rumours mind.

You could always drop the motor in and replace the mounts should they break in the future.

Cheers

yeah take the engine out and see if the existing mounts are in good cond.

also try and get a set of RA65 or MA61 mounts and compare them they might be the same.

I used Toyota Diesel Landcruiser mounts for my 3s conversion.
I paid 40 bucks each for them from Repco (Coventries also had them) so they should have original 1G mounts also.......

If you take your existing engine mounts to NOLTEC in Hornsby
they will re-bond them in polyurethane - much stronger than the
original rubber and cheaper than genuine. Speak to Ian or Greg as
NOLTEC sponsers toymods so you will get a good price.

Shane,
I used these because i figured if the torque of a Diesel Landcruiser cant break the mounts then there is not much chance of me breaking them.
I can provide pictures if you want.
Sorry i dont have icq.

I might go visit Conventry's, my mechanic suggested someone else, and they will probably do a similar thing to what Noltec would do...

Well i can get pics but i cant host them. Confused

I brought the guy my old mounts they make a mould up then fill it then rip it open and there your mount - they had to do it twice with mine cause the first one didnt set right. I think it cost me $80.

Send them to iamfrank@bigpond.net.au and I will host them.

So if I take my mounts around there, they will make new ones out of the old? That'd be sweet! Thanks for the heads up dude!
