Detonation Problem

Alright, some sort of crazy stuff is going down with my 2TGEU in my KE35. Being quite a few 2TG gurus on here, so I thought I'd ask.
Engine detonates above 2400rpm.
Example: Changed to cleaned injectors, turned on car, drove down the road. no problem. Smelt petrol, turned off car, all hoses were on sweet, probably just fuel dropped from when changing injectors. Turned back on car, and then it pinged again.
I can't see any loose wires around the fuel hose area.
Things I've tried: Different AFM, computer, injectors, coil, changing base timing - +12 -> -5 deg.
I'm guessing it must be something in the wiring which is gonna take a long time to diagnose, so I'm thinking of taking the car to an auto electrician this week.
Any thoughts? Karl

I take it it is the same tank of fuel as before it started pinging? If not i'd drop the tank and get some fresh fuel to eliminate that first.
Secondly it sounds like you changed or cleaned the injectors. This is most like your prob. One of the injectors isn't opening and is giving a very lean(lean = very detonation friendly) mixture in the cylinder.
Put your finger on each injector and you should be able to feel them clicking. If not then this should be your prob injector, give it a go.
Let me know, i'm interested.

Okay, turns out it was just a rattle.
but, fwiw: I have drained fuel tank. Injectors were ultrasonically (i think) cleaned and flow tested between 205-220cc.

ha! i've had exactly the same problem, but in my g/f's pulsar. it appeared to be detonating from 3500rpm, but it was the lid of the airbox rattling with the intake resonance!

I love hearing about fixes like those. Instead of being some massive expensive mechanical issues. Takes alot of stress out!
