icon4.gif  silicone elbows:: where from, and alternatives ?? Mon, 30 June 2003 06:37 Go to next message
im after some 3" ID 90deg and 45deg elbows. anyone know who/where i might be able to get some silicone ones from, and how much im looking at?

alternatively - this isnt a boosted application, and silicone is probably way overkill, so does anyone have any ideas as to another way of joining 3" induction pipe? like i said - in 90deg and 45deg angles?

cheers
ed

I brought mine from GCG turbo they carry nearly ever elbow possible, but very expensive.. Over $60 for most of them and up to $100 from memory.

I found truck places (Truckline is one of them), carry lots of this kind of stuff also for 1/4 of the price. The guy I was talking to said most trucks all use mandrel bends and stuff and they have access to it all.

Cheers

AVO in Melbourne. 03 95834499. They have them but they won't be cheap. They probably have an agent in Sydney somewhere. Have you thought of using a steel bend from an exhaaust shop with straight rubber or silicon connectors? You'd need them to swage the ends for you.

laurie,

thats alterntive #1 : simply using mandrel bends, and making the joins along the straights. however, i thought that having the flexible bits at the corners might give me more installation flexibility, and also, would allow more degrees of freedom in engine movement (ie intake can flex in more planes).

truckline sounds like it might be a goer - i really dont thnk i need silicone, just some regular intake bends...

cheers

i just bought some ilicone tubing from AVO, and they posted up (by Aus Air express.... i can't stand them....)
anyway, it was red 2" diameter and cost $6 per inch

the brand on the tube is SAMCO SPORT, which i think it a british mob, they have listings of all available sizes on their site (below) and AVO should be able to get them in, or have them in stock..

http://www.samcosport.com/

standard hose can take 170 deg C, but there is a high temp hose that can take 250 deg C.

when i rang around sydney places, they all said they got their kits straight from AVO (and then add their little bit on top)

You can get 3 inch, 4 inch etc rubber elbows from truck exhaust/intake places usually. I just bought 3 3 inch 90 deg truck elbows, and at $17 dollars, as compared to 100+ for silicon the choice was easy (can get 45 deg too). Especially when you are doing it for non-turbo applications.

Here in adelaide the place to go is Diesel Exhaust Systems, and I'm sure there are comparable joints all major cities. Just look up truck ehaust systems in the yellow pages and start ringing around.

Take it easy
