Hey guys,
I'm spraying my Celica XX, and its coming to the time when I have to be buying my paint. Obviously, I don't want to buy too much, I don't have money to burn
The whole car is going to receive 2 coats of POR15 rust paint. The bits that have had rust repaired already have 3 coats on them. In theory, the body itself should never rust again How much should I be buying of this? It comes in 1l cans of about $66, or 4l for $198.
Its going to receive two coats of POR15 primer, which is fine. I've been told by PPC to purchase the same amount of primer as POR15.
The car is going to be sprayed in pearl white acrylic paint. How many coats of this should I be using? Having said that, how much of this should I buy?
Lastly, the car is going to receive two coats of Glisten PC, which is PPC's clear coat, and they suggested this is what should be done. 1l covers 15sqm apparently, so how many would someone estimate I'd need?
Basically, its the quantities I'm curious about, because I've never sprayed a car before, nor have I had the need to buy paint for one like this. If anyone else has any other suggestions about any of the prep, or painting or whatever...PLLLEEEEEEEEAAASSSEEE tell me I'm all ears!
Thanks,
Nathan

When i painted my ke20, i bought 3ltrs of hmm..shit i cant remember the name, but it was a metalic blue colour, i had about 7-800ml left over, just enough for touch ups and stuff at a later date.
with acrylic's you have to thin in at about 1part acrylic to 3parts thinner, wether metalics have to be thinner to get the effect more i dunno, but its good to have it a bit thin anwyay, got a mate whos works at Castlemaine Street Rod Resteration (spray painter) and yeh, he got all the paint for me, pre-thinned it all and everything, was heaps easy
How many 1sqm would a car be, 8-10sqm my guess would be.
Also, whites not a very good coverer over its self, and might take a few coats to cover properly, only put thin coats and allow it to tack off before recoating.
It would be quicker to use a base coat then a clear, can do it in a day (done a mates 1200 in a day, and was dry that evening)
it might be in 2pak which you might not like, i dunno, it all comes down to personal choice i spose, anyways, iv prolly just
ranted on a bit to much, good luck dude
and take your time, dont rush it cos it will show up.
also, wet and dry it with like 1200 or something really fine before the final coat.
