Hi, I have a SV21 89 model toyota camry. I was thinking of puting in a turbo motor from a celica, 3sgte but leaving it FWD. I live in Newcastle and have heard that this has allready been done.
Does any one know the name and how i can get in contact with the owner of this camry?
Is this an easy conversion?
Will i need to modify all the engine mounts, or are they in the same spots?
will i need to upgrade the brakes, and what should i upgrade them with?
will i need to change the fuel pump?
i have so many question that need answering so is there anywere i can ask?
I would like to do a lot of the work myself but before i attempt this conversion i would speak or even look up to some information on this subject. If anyone has any information opinions or even ideas please do not hesitate to call.
regards, ilija

Well - you'd either put a 3S-GE or a 3S-GTE in it. Given that the blocks would be very similar I don't think there would be any engine mount fabrication required. Best way to do it would be to get a front cut. That way you would get all the parts needed for the conversion. The camry had 4 wheel discs didn't it? If that was the case then I think you may be able to get away with just upgrading the front discs with those that you pulled out of the front cut. The conversion hasn't been done anywhere near the number of times the equivalent 4A-XX -> 4A-GT,ZE but I haven't heard any reason why it would be any harder. I'd like to do a similar coversion to an SV21 wagon. hmmmm - sleeper....
good luck

just a suggestion here, it might be easier to use the 3S-GTE from a MR2 so u dont have to go to the trouble of turning the GT4 gearbox into 2WD.

Hello As far as I know the drive shafts will fit in fine but the gear forks come in from the wrong direction. There is a panel you can remove of the mr2 gearbox to make the forks work but then you have to weld a panel over the original fork entrance.
I hope I got the right. Somone tell me if its wrong coz im doing the same conversion in the near future.
Thanks-

I forgot only the ultimas and i think some cs-x came with four wheel disk brakes. the rest had drums on the back. I can see any reason why you couldnt swap the backs.

i would love to do the same conversion to my SV21, but being a student and poor and all that makes it hard... so unless some mr2 owner thinks their car is TOO powerful and would like to swap (not likely ) another option is turbocharging the current 3sfe, but since it was never built to withstand thrashing, let alone a turbo, i thinks this is out of the question. here in perth i have no trouble keeping up with v6 bombadores of the same age, usually cause their a P plater and dont know how to drive fast AND sensable (so many commadores, soooo many trees...)
