Hey guys, I have acquired an 80 model Celica an "LT" 2000 with 5 speed
I would like to know the "code" eg RA23 for this car that I have heard other celica's quoted as.
Also what is the name of this motor?
And what are some popular swaps?
Cheers, Dane

Have you check the compliance plate? that usually has the chassi number and engine details.
What year?

Help if I read the post...
It should be an RA40. I think they came with 18Rs in them.
Like is said there should be a compliance plate on the firewall side under the bonnet that should give you the engine number as well.

Sandwiching in an M-series motor like that would be far more hassle than its worth and ruin the handling. For a Celica you'd be better off with a smaller engine like a 1GGE/1GGTE or an 18RG if you're on a tighter budget.

Lets not turn this into one of those debates there have been enough of them already.
I would say first look at how much you are willing to spend then then do some research via the search button(link). I managed to learn a lot that way.
Oh when figuring out cost budget on the expensive side, that way if it cost less then its a bonus, but if it works out the amount you budgeted then you wont be out of pocket (further anyways.)

He already got a 18RG in it.
Why not looking into a mazda engine ? just a longshot but the F2 out of the B2200 Ute is RWD. You could get the manifolds from the F2/T from the 88-92 Turbo 626. Ive heard of cars 171 KW @ the front wheels. on 23psi...
There is also the FE DOHC naturally a FWD engine but the Late model KIA uses the same engine but RWD. Something to look into ive heard 400hp on stock rods !!! Strong or WHAT !

Where does it say he has an 18RG? I just see 18R, and unless it had an engine conversion an LT 2000 RA40 would be lumbered with a lovely 18R-C...

if your celica looks like this:

and your engine looks like this:

then its a RA40 with an 18R-C
mazda626 im not having a go or anything but u have to be weary at what type of advice you give to people on the forums, it may end up giving them a lot of headaches ie. M series motor in a RA40 arrrggghhh!
Gib search the forums u will find heaps of info on celica engine swaps heres a short list from easiest to hardest
18R-G (twin cam twin carb, bolt in)
18R-GEU (twin cam EFI bolt in wire ECU)
1G-GE (twin cam multivalve 6 cylinder read the tech articles here)
http://www4.tpgi.com.au/users/loats/technical/ra40 /1ggeconversion.html
and here

1G-GTE read tech articles again
1JZ-GTE (no atricles available your on ya own)
