2Fast 2Furious Question

For anyone who's seen this movie, whats venting out of the Skyline everytime he blips the throttle? I've seen it on a few drag cars as well.
If its a BOV, then how come you can see vapour??

i think it is BOV, ive also seen it ages ago on a v6 turbo commie.
i would think you can see it because its pressurised, cause like the sudden decompression causes the moisture in the air to turn to water for a second then it vapourises again
think about it, you pressurise and it gets hot and gets cold going the other way, hence fly spray feels cold

the 'stand alone feul management system' and spoon throttle body cant handle the back pressure created when you take your foot of the accelerator, thus propelling a cloud of liquidified rice out of the bonnet...

Supposedly it's to clear vapour out of the nitrous lines so the liquid gets through sooner.
I think in a way it's a bit like a blow-off valve.. Something that started out as a useful function of turbo technology, and became an attention seeking device for ricers.. Here's an excerpt from a site that's selling a purge kit:
Quote: | To be the quickest off the line, your nitrous system must deliver pure liquid nitrous from the first instant. The ZEX Nitrous Purge Kit clears unwanted vapor out of the system to assure rocket-like starts, essential for beating the competition off the line. The ZEX kit uses the largest solenoid and delivery system in the industry, creating the "snow machine" effect every racer wants.

What happens when your at a set of traffic lights and standing beside you is an awsome looking gril in a little skrit teasing your eyes. All you gotta do is thump the accelerator, let go so your car blow off some vapour and admire while the skirt instantly gets blown up. It really is logical thinking.

not many chicks know what nitrous purging system is let alone they be able to identify a fake one...

I'm dubious about the use of a nitrous purge.
The people who should be using nitrous are the same people who cant even use it till 3rd or 4th gear... so who needs a purge for "off the line" starts?
hell, even my car couldn't use nitrous in first or 2nd

You've seen too many Fast and Furious Movies.
Nitrous is pointless in Drag Racing if it was activated by the push of a button like in the movies. To be honest, i've never seen any drag racer use n2o at certain points. It's just being used 100% of the time.
Imagine running "button-activated" nos in a Dial-your-Own at the drags? You'd need to know the EXACT point to push the button otherwise you'd break out...pointless.

They didn't make it go blurred... It was because of the acceleration caused by the NOS kicking in ...

i've watched the first 20minutes of that movie maybe...decided it was crapo and gave up.
however...there is no way in the world that is a nitrous purge...the sheer volume of gas/stuff coming out would have the tank empty before he got off the line.
and I believe it was linked to the guy backing off wasn't it? So it would have to be the BOV from hell.
More likely than either of those though..its a compressed air tank or fire extinguisher or some other stupid "lookk at the stuff our cars can do" that they've put in the movie cause no one on the set knows what the f#$k they are talking about.
otherwise known as SFX i believe.

every nitrous purge I've ever seen is just a little cloud (no more than 50cms), for maybe a second. That gtr looked like it was from start wars or something. All the spaceship doors seem to vent gas when they open

I read some article about the movie and they just totally exaggerated things like the 'Nos purge' and the exhaust flamess for extra rice value... just ridiculous and unrealistic really
...total dumb stuff, 'cause you can't look at it and go "Boy I wish I had that." 'cause it is impossible and dumb, unless someone likes carrying smoke machines around...
hmmm... now that I think of it, I would like it if I could have smoke coming from out of my car's doors when I opened it to step out at the mall or something. hehe Draven, just visualise stepping out with this cloud of neon lighted smoke. just like the Emporer...
ok, little distraced here..

Having flames out the exhaust is far from impossible. There is actually a kit you can buy from america that actually ignites the fumes with a spark and hey presto, instant flames. Its used on alot of hotrods and its all controlled by a button in the cabin. It actually looks kinda cool.

yeah it is totally possible, (just watch the v8s at bathurst) but the NOS vents? phhhhh I don't think so. I read in the Telegraph on Saturday while I was super bored at my servo how they had rigged up these special flame things to 'enhance' the spectacle.
