Read the articles and searched the threads. Now for some questions. Tue, 02 July 2002 04:40 Go to next message
Hi guys I own an ae86 trueno and am interested in some bigger front brakes for the car. I have considered shortened ra60 struts and brakes but this is too much mucking around and is also costly. I have read the article in the tech section and searched the forums and have a couple of questions regarding the mx61 conversion.

If I use the cressida strut combined with ae86 lowered springs and strut tops will my car be the same height as it was when I was running ae86 struts and brakes? Can I still use my original master cylinder?

Thanks

You can use the same master cylinder. You will need to measure the height of your cressida struts, and only you can do this becasue we don't know what cressida struts you have. Also, I suspect the cressida spring mount maybe bigger than the corolla spring mount. In this case, cut both spring mounts off, and weld the corolla mount to the new strut. This is what I did, and you can choose the ride height then to some extent.

Thanks for the help guys. After some more research I have discovered that cressida's made between 7/82 and 9/84 have struts that have the same body length as my ae86 struts. If I change my ae86 inserts into the cressida struts then the shocks become the same height when compressed and extended. (In theory) Also my ae86 springs and strut tops are used then I will not need to worry about the cressida springs being to high. The cressida struts will fit onto my ae86 steering arms also. Cheap bigger brakes.

Just remember to change the spring mounts over as Johnny2TG stated.

Chrisss

I may have to use celica steering arms I have just realised. As for the measurements I rung a friend of mine who works for Fulcrum Suspension here in Brisbane. He was able to help me out with all the measurements. Very handy. That's all I have found at the moment. Now I am trying to work out a cheap way to get an LSD under the car using bits off other cars. Making sure that the diff is still the same length and not too much longer. Too much bloody work I think. LoL.
