1G-GTE Piston Rings - Australia? Sat, 05 July 2003 02:36 Go to next message
Anyone know where i can get a cheap set of rings to fit a 1G-GTE from? besides toyota Razz I cant find them anywhere! Im sure some people over in sydney or melbourne should know of some places.. cmon guys! Razz this is all i need to start the re-build now.. Also, i have a friend who imports cars to WA, would he be able to get them for cheap? Is it because they come from Japan the reason why the rings are so much? Toyota want too much.

How much do Toyota want? Maybe you'd be better off purchasing one of the complete 1GGTE's that gabe has for sale in Perth and using your one for parts? Just a thought.

You can buy individual rings sets from ACL. Check what bore and ring thickness your compression and oil rings are and go to an engine reconditioner/auto parts store and get them to order them in for you.
Check with Toyota too....you might be pleasantly surprised at their price, and it'll be much less hassle.

Think about it this way, you'll always have a spare, and you've still paid SFA for the gear Smile

So i dont need SPECIFIC 1G-GTE rings? i can just measure size and things, and ACL might have something that fits? Ive been to Marlows for them.. nothing.. Toyota want $350 for a set of rings.. thats rediculous.. i COULD use the old ones.. but id rather get some new ones. Im looking into buying a complete motor at the moment anyway, so we'll see.

Thanks for that number tanman, ill give him a buzz after work tommorrow.

1GGTE rings will be 75mm bore (if you haven't gone oversize with your pistons). You then need to know the ring thickness and depth (I don't know but I'd imagine to comp rings are 2.0mm thick and the oil ring is 4.0mm - you must check this). Preferably go to an engine reconditioner with a piston and ring (as they will know exactly what you need) rather than a suburban ricey parts store (you could potentially be served by a person who has never popped a bonnet).
Here is the ACL online piston ring catalogue....it is a veritable treasure trove of info. If you look at the back you can see the listings for the different rings they have sorted in diameter and ring thickness.
EDIT - looks like it has changed a bit since I last looked.
