How bout this idea, tape a tape recorder (lecture ones) to the bonnet or under the bonnet and go for a fang....
do u think that would record a pretty good sound effect ?
Once I do that, how would I get it onto the computer i.e. into *.wav format ???
Thanks !!

You could always just use your laptop! No stuffing around then, cause they'll be on ya pc from the word GO.

You'd hope that you've got the laptop strapped in pretty good!
I might try recording the sound from the boot just to have a listen. But it'll be a shame 'coz you won't hear the turbos screaming...

You really need to have the microphone secure from wind noise. I have tried recording outside the car, from the rear number plate , also stuck a microphone onto the passenger side rear vision mirror, but wind noise just got too much...
Inside the car is what counts IMHO it is what we'd hear if we drove someone else's car. If you want exhaust noise, get someone to record as you accellerate past etc.

I did experiment with recording sound from a Ta22 fitted with an 18RG. I found the best place for the mic was strapped to the gear stick. If you think about this, the theory is the same as 2 cans on a peice of string! All the engine noises are transmitted through the drivline. Anyway, get the picture?

Hehe, I sorta know what you mean, but the 2 cans on a string is a bad example, as it doesn't actually work.

Umm the 2 cans on a peice of string does actually work!
But for another example just think about a Record Player! The sound (read vibrations) travel up the needle to the "amp".
Dont tell me that does'nt work...

PZM microphone. Flat square that you stick to a reverbant surface that transmits the sound to the recording device.
