Changing IRS diff

Hey guys,
I'm on holidays now, so its FINALLY time I get to play with the car. I'm pulling the 1GEU and W57 out in the next few days (finally! ), but I'm also removing the T312 diff to be replaced with the F303 (yeah, I know, its a 3.73, but I own it ).
What I was thinking about trying to do is just swapping out the entire centre and axles, and see if the F-series gear just bolts into its place. I'm going to try and use the original driveshaft...for some reason, the parts car has a one-piece driveshaft!? Fingers crossed it's the same length.
My current rear end is a T-series with discs, which is as far as I can tell exactly the same as any other Mk2 Supra, save for the centre itself. I was hoping the bolt-holes are all the same or at least there, but unused.
Is there anything in particular you guys reckon I should do in changing this, or is my plan worthy of giving a go? Any suggestions are welcome! I've learnt a lot in theory through asking questions on these forums...and now I have to put it into practice!
Thanks,
Nathan

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't most MA61s HAVE an F diff in them already??

No, you're right, I think all MA61's had an F-series as far as I've seen...buy my car was originally (in its former incarnation) a GA61 2000G, the lowest spec (mechanicals wise) Celica XX.
If anyone has any suggestions...all ears guys!

Hey Nathan,
I swapped the diff out of my 82 Euro Spec MkII (body same as a XX - no flares , but does have 5MGE, 3.73 LSD F series) a few months ago (for a 3.93 LSD F series). Do you have/need anything (eg another car) to compare the setup of the rear ends with?
I'm in Perth - lmk if you need any info about the diff swap.

I've got my parts car, but they are a fair way apart. Neither of them is really drivable. The parts car is a Euro-Spec like yours, black. What I think I might do is just grab the centre and axles from the parts car and cross my fingers it bolts up

Measure up your mounting points and post them up here. I have two F series rear ends sitting in the sheed from a TA63 Carina and an RA63 Celica, I also have the rear floor plan section from the Carina sitting there. Just use some sort of common reference points and I should be able to tell you if it will fit. I would also suggest you take the whole subframe, don't dick around with just the centre and axles.

That I understand, but whats the point of swapping the whole subframe when I've already got the discs and everything?

It is a lot less work to swap the whole subframe rather than strip everything down and put it back together. Also are you sure the parts are even compatible between the F and T series IRS's? If they aren't you would end up doubling your work.

OK got those measurements for you, hope these make sense.
Front two bolts, 107cm apart. Rear two bolts were 68cm apart. Measurements from front to rear bolts were 63cm.
Note all these measurements were taken from the TA63 Carina floorpan sitting upside down in my shed with the F series diff removed. This means totally unimpeded access so you may need to factor this in when measuring up your car as I assume it is still assembled.
Let me know how you get on or if you need any clarification.

Thanks for that dude. I might compare that with the T-series in the car atm. My logic was that if I swap the centres and it doesn't fit, shit happens, cos its not a lot of work.
I'll let ya know how I go

This swap used to be discussed on the OCC list a fair bit. Apparently it can be done but the bolt holes are different (ie the F series diff is held in place with more bolts). The general consensus is you're better off swapping the whole subframe if you have one. It's only held to the body with 4 bolts, and you don't have to dick around with driveshaft bolts etc, so this seems like the best option to me!

Okay, I'm going to sound stupid, but what exactly is the rear subframe, and where are these four bolts?

The rear subframe is a big steel frame in the back of the car which is bolted to the floorpan with 4 huge bolts. The diff and the suspension is mounted on this subframe, so it's a relatively straightforward process to pull the whole lot out at once.

Front two bolts are just in from the sills in front of the rear wheel arch. The rear two bolts are behind the diff head on each side of it. Memory is not 100% but I think the front ones are inside the car under the rear seat, but undoing the nuts from below is enough. Rear ones undo the nuts on them from underneath again, bolts are inside chassis rails under two plastic covers.
