Boost & Smoking problems..

Hi
I own a 1987 EL31 Toyota Corolla II GP Turbo (import), I've put in a 4EFTE (1.3ltr DOHC 16v Turbo from Starlet GT) and the car went great for 1st couple of weeks, but one day I started it up and started driving and I noticed boost didn't come as strong as before.. and I had black smoke (over fueling?)coming out of the exhaust with a back fire or two.
I've had the car serviced, changed oil, plugs, all filters, even advanced the timing but 2 clicks, and still the same problem, I would say that the service has made the smoking situation worse.
I've taken the car to a few places and no one can give me a stright answer.
The only thing I can think of is a leaking intercooler pipe, I have retained the top mount even tho its not getting any flow because at this stage I'm hard pressed for funds for a front mount.
Whats your thoughts on the problem?
Worried,
Tom.

It could be a leaking pipe problem - does it idle like crap as well? There might be a leak somewhere that only really opens up on boost, causing the AFM to read far too much air, or maybe the AFM itself could be crook - these sorts of problems can be hard to track down, and ALWAYS turn out to be something rediculously simple

Turbo is in good nick, today I put some electrical tape around the intercooler pipes and also replaced some clips to see if it would make a difference.. and it had for a bit.. so it could be intercooler pipe leak?
I'm pretty sure 4EFTE is map sensored.. nothing on the intake pipe to the turbo..??
I hope its just some small problem.
Tom.
