i want to keep the engine but i would like a bit of grunt, like last night i got beaten by a rav4 its a 2 litre carby and if enough money is spent i could get it doing 12 sec 1/4 mile times but that will be like 20 grand, i just want to know any suggestions or ideas where to start what will have the most increase by doing what to this engine i wouldn;t want to spend any more than 4 grand. i know it seems a waste of time cause i can get a 1ggte for the same price but for some reason i want to keep my ra60 in orignal form ( well the same engine at least! ) am i dreaming or not?

u could get some power out of it by going turbo if you HAVE to keep the same engine, but you'd probably be better getting something with 2 cams...

how similar are the 21r and 22r? in the US they have huge hp number 22r's maybe you could look there for inspiration.

all the 21r and 22r parts are rpeddy much the same.. the crank are interchangable and also the conrods and you can put the 22r head ont he 21r block.. you can get twin webber kits for both these engines

Some dude spent about $10k on turboing a 21R-C and he ended up selling it on ebay. Speaking to him after, he thought it was one of the stupider things he had done.
It will cost you less money, you'll have a much more drivable, fuel efficient and drivable result if you spent that money on a 1GGTE conversion!

theres no way im going to turbo a carby, it wears the engine in 500 km unless u spend 10 grand with ecu's and variable cam timeing and whatnot. id leave it normally aspirated but persoanlly i dont see the restrictions on a 21r-c, 2 litres, lots of room for improvement, i guess i just want to try soometing people are going to scoff at and something thats different and i am personally quite happy with the power of my 21rc now for what it is, id just love a fair bit more power, it will beat stock lancers and mirages cause i work at mitsubishi and im surprised how fast that engine is for the age and what it is compared to todays slightly smaller but efied engines in todays cars. i guess its just keeping the car purely a ra60 celica, to me chanigng the engine is changing half the car and i can only say the body is a ra60. i guess its just trying something diffrent and when you think about it there is nothing stopping a 21rc from being just as powerful as any other 2 litre engine. the only thing that makes an engine go faster is more air or more compressed air, the car will compensate the correct fuel ratio to the air automatically.

You're saying you want 220hp NA from a 21R-C, which redlines at 5500rpm stock and makes a storming 90hp...
I'm sorry, but that ain't going to happen. Thats more power than a Beams 3SGE.
The 21R-C is not a performance engine, and barely endows the car with the power to beat anything. Don't watse your money on it dude, "there is no point in polishing a turd"...and YES, it IS a turd.

Actually, there's a lot in the way of the 21R-C ever becoming a 100 hp/litre engine.

My RA60 has a 21R-C and is going to stay that way. Its not a performance engine, but it is reliable! So therefore its role is purely transport.
The GA61 is soon to receive a 1GGTEU.
