I just found it amusing that someone would go to so much trouble to produce the website !!

And yes guns are cool .
As is anything which through high technology and careful engineering pushes the limmits of physics.
Isnt that the same reason we appreciate fast cars??

Turbokid - go live in the country for a while, or watch MacLeod's Daughters if you must, and then you'll realise why guns are important. Handguns are "urgh"-worthy, but there is a legitimate use for rifles and the like.

Yeah Turbokid, id like to see you front an angry king brown, that wants to eat your dog/other pet, with a shovel.

They dont back down and will chase you if disturbed and in a bad mood.

Gimme firepower everytime, just dont miss!!

Matt,

It's hard to miss a brown snake with a minigun!!!!!
That is if you have the arms to be able to hold one!

Did Bill find that site?

Guns are cool... just not in the wrong hands... like mine!

Oh thats right i get to play with big guns lots!

I agree with Toyo3T. weapons(guns, whatever) are interesting, mainly from an engineering point of view, more than their destructive side.
I also respect people who have the discipline to learn to control a weapon with such power. using a firearm is another skill which like driving, takes practice to master.

I've always found gatling-design weapons impressive. the rotary barrel design was an innovative way to get a repeating action, with reliability. having multiple barrels, but one chamber gives them time to cool between shots,as well as making higher cyclic rates possible,as you can load, fire and eject empty cartridges simultaneously, which is impossible with a conventional locked breech rifle design.

cool link, thanks for posting it up.

I actually found the link,

a couple of years ago I saw some footage of the Vulcan flanks system being used to bring down anitship missiles.

I wanted to try to find that footage again.

Very impressive bit of gear the vulcan, radar guided 6000rpm 20mm rotary cannon and can cut down missiles traveling at many times the speed of sound in very close range.

It is fully automated, either on or off, just set the radius and it chops up ANYTHING which comes into that airspace.

Very cool to watch !!

freaky technology .

yeah, the CWIS Phalanx is pretty cool. I had the system explained to me a few months ago by a mate on the Kitty Hawk when it was here last. apparently they make the fighter drivers nervous with it from time to time, when it gets turned on as part of a maintennance schedule.
basically, the radar lights up as a plane approaches...the pilot then radios in words to the effect of "uh,this is ****,I've just had a CWIS lock,I'm breaking off..."

the system is meant to be the last defence, following the ship to air sparrows. I don't know about you,but I would feel fairly confident within a mist of projectiles surrounding me.

G'day,

Even more impressive is the Australian designed "metal storm". Built again for missile defence, has 6 or more... barrels side by side with a rotating chamber (i think)...

The end result... over 1 million rounds per minute...
