Running Lean - 1jz -

Had the same problem since i got the motor 18 months ago... it always makes little pops high in the rev range.
Found out on the dyno it is running 13-14 airfuel ratios... and that is way too lean.
I have the 2jzgte intank pump... and i really don't think it is pump related cause it made the popping sound before and after the pump conversion.
Any other ideas?? Or has anyone else come across a 1J running so lean?

Have you had the injectors cleaned and flow tested?
Also the fuel pressure regulator may be worth checking.

hook up a fuel pressure gauge and see if it is losing pressure up high in the rev range.

RRFPR sounds like the way to go, and tune it on a dyno with an oxygen sensor, or get someones wide-band sensor.

just pulling this from the vault, have many people had trouble with the standard 1jz fuel pressure regulators? do they tend to fail or is general fault that tends to occur and easily fixed?

Haven’t had any probs with mine.
Although my mates jzz30 pops high up in the rev range. It has exhaust, FMIC and 15psi.

the poping sounds like a lean miss
mine is hitting boost cut or fuel cut depending on what stories im reading
im getting error code 34 and 25, so running lean along with boost pressure malfunction. its like got unlim boost even turning the controller right down. vacuum hoses look alright from what i see

AFAIK boost cut is fuel cut. When you reach 14.7psi (boost limit) it cuts fuel.
Do you have twin dump pipes or FMIC? If so, these will be less of a restriction and will naturally increase boost. It should quite be 14.7psi but some engines are weird. My mates jzz30 that i mentioned ran about 11psi stock and close to 15psi with exhaust and FMIC.(no dump pipes)

Hmm, that is weird then.
Are you running a SAFC or FCD?
Double check the lines to your boost controller. Put some soapy water on them and see if it bubbles.

A friend of mines vaccum line to the fuel regulator was split that caused to to run lean. Also the o2 sensor should correct that

im going to have a look at the fuel regulator tonight, i am running a FCD but no SAFC.
im also running no oxy sensor (no its not that) so i will always get error code 21.

well did a bit of a street tune on the way home from work and it was the FCD after all. i was seeing 20psi for a bit but have turned the controller down and just running at 12 however it is definately not hitting boost cut as when it was set higher than 12 i could hold 15-16psi which is what its setup for.
thanks guys
