Opinions please.

Along with other things at the moment i am looking for a new power plant for the celica. I was just browsing the trading post and came across this 13b.
Mazda 13B Bridgeport, complete motor with 48mm weber, Gilmer drive and holly blue pump, see running, $1700, plus some RX4 parts from $5 CASTLE HILL 0403-50 3818
Now i am not an rotary buff, this is why i am asking. But for the engine and bits listed with it... 1700 sounds cheap to me.. or am i just being paranoid and it is a normal price?

rotary engine are pretty cheap
that's why a lot of people who blow the seals (which is pretty common) tend to just swap in another engine.

Is it legal? I thought it wasn't...
I wouldn't suggest getting a bridge port if you don't know anything about rotors... They're high maintanence with the apex seals going every 15,000km (from memory).

im not sure about ta22 but i know redline rotary was doing one for an ra28, but they are about 100kg heavier and originally had the 1.8L. u may be able to but may have to do some reinforcing which can be costworthy.your best bet would be to give an engineer a buzz, i think some may even specialise in rotary engines...

rotaries can be just as reliableas piston engines, IF you treat them with the care they need and build them correctly...
a mate had one in an RX3 for 4 years, pulling over 400hp atw for all four years... he didnt end up popping a seal, but took it apart to see wear and tear.. now he still has the same housings and plates as before, but replaced seals.... goes to show they can last if you treat them right...

3s is a bit expensive for rwd applications
13b bridge/peripheral port would be an option., but they tend to become fuel pigs (mate had an rx3 witha 13b peripheral port.. ended up selling it due to the fuel bills

far out man.... at the end of the day... I say... do the conversion that is:
easiest
cheapest
fastest
(in that order)
and a 1g in a Celica is not something you see on the road everyday !!!!)

I think a 1G in a Ta22 is quite a task as they are a bit shorter in the nose than the later celica's. The 3T would be a great option for a 22. They are pretty cheap and you can get a fair bit of powet from them. Look at what they were getting on the last Dyno day, 100-200kw at the wheels. Thats heaps for a 22.
