icon5.gif  wiring diagram for RA40? anyone? Tue, 08 July 2003 14:34 Go to next message
hi folks,

i'm after a wiring diagram for my 1981 RA40 (with 18R). Am running out of charge every nite (unless battery is unhooked) ;-(

i've got a Haynes manual but all the diagrams are for US models and bear little resemblance to what's under the bonnet. I really need to find out if my DIY timer, ignition, alternator, AC, alarm etc... are actually hooked up properly - or if it's a dodgy starter or alternator. The blue indicator on my Yasua battery suggests the battery's ok. So something's not right, it's really buggin' me and without a wiring diagram i'm guessing too much.

i've left a PM with ddeane (keeper of many wiring diags), but thought one of youz folk might be able to help.

there's too many mods/short-cuts to the car to bother taking it to an auto-sparkie - they'd spend a day working it out and i can't waste that amount of cash...

tia,
Charles

Yo chuck.
Call scot from bundamba auto electrics.
He did my wiring for me and should still have the diagrams.
Brett.

hiya Brett!
hows the Supra? Wink
am going to redo some of the ign wiring first - plus actually note down the wiring for the timer & alarm. I've put an ammeter on the power out of the battery and the only thing pulling joice is the alarm when armed ;(
i remember you saying the bundamba guys wired up your 1g-gte install but figured they'd have same hassles as me getting an actual wiring diagram. i'll contact them if luck doesn't turn my way
fwiw, i think part of the problem is that the starter is pulling too much juice (prob a dodgy solenoid or windings) plus the ign coil's not wired correctly so it's only getting 6-8 volts for spark when starting (plus there's a growing number of earth problemsr). so the longer i crank at the start, the worse battery gets and the less (if any) spark i get. .... anyway it sounds like a good theory? Wink
btw: 1g-gte is out of the yellow car (have been distracted until recently).
regards,
Charles

good to see you are getting into it finally.
As for the diagrams they eventually got the right ones and should still have them i think.
And the supra could be better, have fucked the gearbox and she slips a shitload now. But otherwise she is fine.
Brett.
