You mean...they only tighten when you hammer on the brakes? They should move freely until you yank on them or you hit something...

count yourself lucky. i've got an 84 celica and everytime i go to move forward ie. change tracks on cd player, it traps you in the seat and you can't move. it is really irritating. the seat belts seem to be really sensitive.

well.. if i have an accident, i dont want my gf to hit her head on the windscreen, or anyone else for that matter.. maybe your seat belt anchor points need adjusting? just a wild guess.. because they are gravity activated things

i dunno.. i think i gotta go to the wrecker and get second hand ones.. but then they will look shit as the interior is mickey mouse..

*confused* *angry* just copped a speeding fine heh

you'd think that since the sa63 has pop up lights, the ta63 would too.

were they down the end of the bonnet?
Also to the other post bout the SA63 front. I want the indicator from that, provided you have the indicators with it. I'll trade it with you for my dodgy one.

yeah i see em. went to the wreckers today and they had a SA60. What the hell is that? It had japanese stickers all over it, vinyl seats - much nicer than mine or the ones that came in the celicas here and it had electric mirrors. Also the dashboard was different with the speedo only going to 180km/h, analogue clock and a oil pressure guage and two trip meters.

What engine did it have? IRS or solid axcel? Did it have the ra60 front end look?

it had solid axel with drums and has the RA60 front end and back end. However it had the number plate lights beside the number plate and not on the bumper. I am assuming it had the 2s-c engine or maybe 2s-e? also had a switch which i think is to switch on the front drivers parking light and the rear parking light.

Probably the version of the S motor before a 2S-C. You know how the toyota engine codes go: revision number, engine type etc.

here ya go (from Matti's Mainly Toyota site, great source of info. can't remember the link but it's on the links page at www.speedtoys.com/~oldmage)

S series (inline 4, belt, 1.9-2.0L, 1982-): Celica FWD/4WD, MR2 RWD, Carina FWD, Camry

1S SOHC 2 82-88 1832 ? ? 80.5 90
1S*SOHC 2 84 1832 90@5200 104@3400

2S SOHC 2 84- 1995 ? ? 84 90

Seems 2S has a larger bore and thus a 2.0l instead of the earlier 1.8.

Ignore that, I juts read your biography. Sa63. It says Supra fender flares but I don't see them in your avatar pic.

Re: 83 celica seatbelts Mon, 08 July 2002 08:09 Go to previous messageGo to next message
engine mods are non existant. I've got the two flares on the front but none on the back. the wheel arches on the supra are different, they are flared out more than the celica's and that's where the problem is with the back ones. Been meaning to go to a body kit place or something like that and see what they say about it or maybe get some flares that will fit. the reason for there being no flares in my avatar is because that picture was taken a while ago and I haven't got any pics since. that's something else on my list of things to do.

on that note, I'm probably the only person stupid enough to try to put supra flares on a celica. if you know anything about it or know someone that has done it let me know, thanks.

Re: 83 celica seatbelts Mon, 08 July 2002 14:01 Go to previous messageGo to next message
Many people ask about putting flares on non-flared celis. In the US, some people with GTs want to put GTS flares on. Congrats on getting the front done - apparently the inner fender is different on flared cars - but the back requires cutting of the rear quater panels from what I hear. Need a good bodyshop to do it.

Having said that, there are those knockoff GT or GTi celicas going around with aftermarket flares. There is a white celica like mine I see sometimes with bolt on flares (i think) which look pretty good. I've never had a chance to ask the owner about them tho.

Flares are easy fixed...

you simpily pop the bonnet remove the radiator cap,
roll the ra/sa6x out
roll the ma61 in
pop the bonnet remove the MA61 cap
put your ra/sa6x one on

and magicly the flares are now attached to your car!!!!

Replace the Seat Belt! Sat, 13 July 2002 11:12 Go to previous messageGo to next message
G'day,

On the Seat Belt Problem... I had the same. My dad was driving the car (SA63) one day when the seat belt ceased on him and was stuck on one position. Well i worked it out that the mechnisim part of the lock where the car tilts beyond operation angles it moves a little leaver up which locks the belt. To cut the story short, the plastic leaver which jams into the gearing was broken and was stuck. I bent the plastic back and did ok for a while. Eventually i removed the actual plastic device so i could use the seat belt (couldn't afford a new one). It was dangerous because if the car rolled over, the seat belt would still move freely when it should lock up and keep you in you seat Rolling Eyes. Later on the locking disc inside the retracter broke, this is meant to lock when there is a sudden jurk of the seat belt.

Since i have wisen up with the broken seat belt and driving from Melbourne to Warranmabool and back numerous times, i have considered lucky not to hit any wildlife which could have endangered my life. I went and bought a second hand seatbelt for $50. It may be expensive to buy a seat belt but is it worth saving money or your life?

Re: Replace the Seat Belt! Sat, 13 July 2002 13:48 Go to previous message
Not sure if this will help anyone but once when I had the rear seatbelt out to do some work in the car, it sucked itself all the way in. I couldn't unwind it to reinstall. I figured out one day that all you have to do is push the white pin of the mechanism out the way with something like a pen or paperclip (can't remember which)to unlatch it while pulling the belt out.

If I'm parked on a slight upwards hill, I sometimes can't pull out the drivers seatbelt to put it on either.
