icon5.gif  Power Steering Wed, 09 July 2003 10:45 Go to next message
Hey guys,

I'm removing shit from my engine bay because it is being sprayed. From my power steering is a pipe that runs out through the front of the car, turns around in front of the radiator and goes back to the piping.

The only purpose of this I can think of is cooling, would this be necessary, because it kind of interferes with the only spot out front I can fit my intercooler.

Thanks,
Nathan

Don't get rid of it - what you CAN do is to use reasonable 'trans cooler' hose, and move it elsewhere, or better yet, install a proper cooler somewhere out the front of the car!

Pretty much. Its on this pic here: http://iamfrank.ath.cx/xx/images/13022003/images/I MGP0820.jpg

It might be alright, I was just curious as to just how much a small piece of pipe like that could actually do!

Yep, it says TOYODA on the top, I will have to use it with my setup. As for power steering, not sure, my Celica got a new rack about 5 years ago, but that was by the previous owner.

From what i ve been told thats an old shool toyota team (like HDT) and they made stuff for toyota.

If any one can clarify where toyoda came from it would be good.

I think its more that a lot of the time the japanese substitute "ta" for "da".

From memory isn't it also the spelling of the Toyota family name?

Yeah like Henry Ford, the guys name must have been toyota, but the jap's would have pronounced it TOYODA, if you break it down to yoda pretty freaky star wars shht.

MA61's are good at toasting P/S racks, and I suspect it's because the factory "cooler" is inadequate. My advice is to get rid of that pipe thing and replace it with a proper cooler. Just go to the wreckers and look for an auto transmission cooler (Falcons with towbars are a good place to look).

Toyoda is the family name

Toyota was devised as it represents a lucky number in japanese (dont ask me how)

an interesting bit of info is Toyota started out as Toyoda Loom Works and u will find that they still build sewing machines etc.

Im so lame Embarassed but back in my uni days i borrowed this book from the library about the story of toyota, it was one of those boring cahsless holidays so i figured what the hell.

call me lame but i got totally involved in this book as if it was a mini-series or something, Embarassed its amazing how many times a company can be confronted with financial ruin. Shocked

another important bit of info is toyota pioneered the just-in-time manufacturing process.

and yes i know i am a lame-arse... Very Happy
