Looking for Tyre with Good Traction

Hi guys,
Just writing to ask if anyone outthere know what tyre i should use that have the best traction.
I tend to fry my tyre everytime i put my foot down in 1st second and oftenly 3rd. I have a front wheel drive Starlet GT with 17" rims. The biggest tyre i can fit are 205 x 40 x 17.
I tried tracking down the Falken Azenis Street Slicks but they only come in 225 x 45 x 17 as the smallest.
If anyone has any knowledge of / or experiance with extreme traction tyres please help me out. I am currently driving with 14" rims on the front and 17" on the rear till i find good tyres.
Thanx

You could give the Falken Azenis ST115s a try. I think they tend to come in more conventional sizes than the slicks (Realsports).
I find them pretty darn good in terms of grip in both the wet and dry (athough obviously i don't have as much power on tap as you do by the souds of things..)
They'd probably be worth a shot, although you might want to speak to someone with a big HP FWD who uses them to get a better opinion...

Bridgestone Potenza SO2's are supposed be good...standard issue on 911 GT3...they look nice.
The S03's should be good too, but I've never had a chance to try them out.
I have Bridgestone Potenza RE711's on my gutless Celica. I'm not kidding when I say they have excellent wet weather grip. My Celica is gutless (check my signature )) BUT, with my old tyres I used to be able to just turn to shake the tail loose...now it requires brutal clutch dumpage to get any movement...in the wet!
I'd imagine the S03's and S02's are even better though

Try Dunlops. Their range of 'FM901's go from 13" all the way up to 20". I've used the Dunlops for quite a while now, since the introduction of the W-1 SPEC R thru to the W10R, and now the FM901. Tyre life is better than the Azenis ST115, with about the same amount of grip (depending on setup). You wouldn't be disappointed. The Bridgestones are also good, but the range of sizes counts out a lot of the smaller sizes...
Cheers.

i dont think the azenis arent that good....my car can break traction...from them very easily..and thats a 55Kw rated engine.. so imagine a car with at least twice the power...id go as far as saying i recon them tyres suck...thats just my personal opinion from comparing them to my last set of tyres..
WOOHOO!!..go the starlets! ehehehe

Have you looked into the Kumho 712's? I have these on my falcon and find them to be great. More so in the wet!

Ahh QYK11E =] Problem you and I have isnt tyres, its suspension setup and FWD!!! I have that red turbo ae82 corolla, i was speaking to you on king georges rd a while back.... I have falken azenis real sport...they are ok...but i still easily fry them.....problem is you need all weight to go over the front wheels....then the car handles like crap....my solution...run mild boost on street tyres...and slicks/special drag rear suspension on track....no other real option....but if you want a good tyre try Yokohama A032R or Dunlop D01J these are R compound semi slicks and will give u 5000km / set give or take a few but are the best and stickiest tyres you will get for the street that are legal....i was going to go this option but thought about it and realised most of my driving is off boost so why go through a pair of front tyres every 2 months....just get drag slicks for when you want a nice time...which im sure you probably have...PS i am getting Azenis ST115s for everyday, these are pretty alright, but dont expect much traction in 1st and 2nd....I can spin 1st, 2nd and 3rd on azenis real sports...
anyhow take it easy mate..
Michael.
