Alright,
Some of you out there surely have taken a new corolla for a test drive - posing as a potential buyer "winkwink".
come clean, was what it like?
Is it much better than a nice 4age and can you throw the thing around corners?
Is the power delivery good right through the range?
Is the gearbox smooth and tight or notchy?
Clutch feel?
I have read the car mags but would like to hear from someone that flogs out toyotas day in/day out.

Yeah rob you're right
This is from the Toyota web site
2ZZ-GE engine
The name alone holds the promise of power. Acceleration. Performance. And the car delivers - Corolla Sportivo features Celica's powerful 2ZZ-GE engine. This engine is not so much an engine, more a rocket. It's been created for sheer driving excitement, with an explosive 141kW of power and a hefty 180 Nm of torque.

Hey,
Check out the latest issue of MOTOR magazine.
They compare it against the Ford Focus,Holden Astra Turbo and Mini Cooper S (supercharged).
Can't say what they are like 'cos I've never driven 1, but the Mag says there a bit soft under 5500rpm.
Still for $30K you get a lot of Kit. Like 6 stack CD, Leather seats all round, Power Windows,ABS, Dual Airbags, 6 speed manual and the 141KW motor.
Cheers
T.

Yeah! have read the motor magazine and they said it did a 16sec flat quarter mile IN THE WET!! due to it raining when they did the road test. That's good for a stocka corolla.
Still someone must have been in one for a fang surely.

My thoughts on SPORTIVO as posted on www.rollaboyz.org.au
Cheers
Tim
Well I finally have driven the new 141kw sportivo rolla.
Nice, very nice, but just can't get over the shape at this stage.
I walked away with a smile, but no strong desire to own one.
Interior:
Class, very classy, full leather interior incl. seats door trims etc. Excellent quality too, dash panels matched well, trim was nicely finished, silver highlights centre console and power window switches. Chrome interior door handles. All the fruit, climate control, 6disc indash stacker (sounded Ok) lexus style speedo lighting (in orange). Seats were very firm though.
Exterior:
Quality again, excellent panel gap. The sportivos are actually made in South Africa. Nice little body kit, sideskirts, rear spoiler, front lip. Sportivo Badging. 16” wheels.
The problem is that it doesn’t look special enough. Its not much better looking than the 4000 odd base model rollas that Bayswater rent a car have. Doesn’t stand out!
I saw one with 17” rims and they looked small. Seriously you could lower these things 2” and still have tyre-guard clearance. A sick black one lowered 3” and with 19” rims nice……
Performance:
Amazing past 7000revs (or there abouts). You can really feel the vvti-l kick in. But who wants to ring the neck of their car all day long (well ok some do). But generally speaking to get that real kick you needed to exceed the speed limit around the streets straight up. It would be interesting to see the torque curve for it. Very late peak and over very quickly.
The engine did sound noisy from inside as well.
Overall very nice car, excellent value for money at $30000 plus on road costs.
Expect to see a lot of them on the road!!
Car supplied by Graeme Buttler @ Fremantle Toyota.

my dad has a levin with a sportivo suspension kit.
I would have nothing against fully recommending the new corrollas to anyone looking to buy a new car in that class, with the stock engine, it does need to get really high in the rev range to hit peak torque (the S15 pulsar SSS gets points over it for this reason) but it is the best all round package you can get.
The interior is very clean and comfortable (with the chrome and leather inserts) with lots of room up front but the suspesion setup is unreal, you can hit fairly large speed bumps at 60kmh and you would think you were running over a twig.
