Engine Mount Help: 1G+RA23 Thu, 10 July 2003 12:26 Go to next message
Ive got a front sump 1ggte out of a GX81 cressida. Ive also got a TA23 crossmember. The drivers side mount on the engine had 2 bolt holes so i got a 1GGZE engine mount with the single hole but it fouls on the oil pipe (i think its a oil pipe) going from the block to the turbo's. How do you overcome this??

BUT.....

Through my research, from looking at different pictures i cannot figure out if i should be using the mid engine mount holes or the forward engine mount holes. If i was to use the mid mount holes i would not have this problem. Has anyone else had this prob? From what i have read, you use the fwd mount holes if you were using the RA23 crossmember with the the mid-rear sump but im not in this boat.

Any info would be appreciated.

ok i aint 100% sure on this but i had a similar problem,

to clear the oil return you either have to use T-series mounts which can be moded to fit or some how get a set of steel fabricated mounts instead of the cast items, if you are unaware mounts came in both fabricated and cast,

personally i would go for a set of tseries mounts as they were made to that cross member,

when using the mid sump on a ra23 you have to use 18r and fabricated mounts

i hope this helps, if ya have any more dramas let me know

just browsing thru rods tech photos when he put the 1g into tinas ra28
looks like he used to the T mounts, you may have to re weld the cross member mounts

ive got a drivers side steel mount off a 1GGZE but it still fouls on the oil line even after trying to mod it. It fouls on the oil line which is on the fwd mount. Im just curious to know if you can use the mid mount but am unsure if it will all line up or the engine will sit too far back. I think i read that the mid mount bolt pattern is different?? Or could i try and get a new oil line made that would run in a slightly different position?? Ive got a drivers side 1GGZE mound just like the photo of tinas car but it just doesnt fit!!

easyest thing to do is put a mid sump in! use the ra23 x member and get steel fabricated mounts BANG! all bolts in!

dont you still have to cut the ra23 mounts and shave some meat off them?? even still, that damn oil line fouls on the 1ggze steel mount! Are you using the TA or RA crossmember??

im using the Ra23 x-member ( thanks bigworm). the stell fabricated mounts fit around the oil return like a glove, so there is no dramas there, I used DDeans idea and welded up the existing holes on the mounts and redrilled them lower, just so i didnt need to use a spacer on the driverside and also it sitts abit lower.

dude if ya want e to cruise up one day and check out what ya have done or anything let me know camden aint far from the gong

cheers

cuz ive got a TA crossmember and a front sump, i think i will try your idea and get a hold of the 2T mounts. I gave the engine away a while back but if i had known i needed them i would have got them off.

If ya could come up and have a look at my progress that would be great. I think it was you that said that you could also help me with some wiring??
