Running slow Sat, 12 July 2003 13:48 Go to next message
Lately I've noticed my car seems to be revving a lot slower once it reaches the more higher revs.

But today it was confirmed after I gave my friend a run. Last time I ran him, he would only pull away from me at about 120km/h. While now he pulls away from the moment we take off [well after 1st/2nd second of launch].

Also to even further test it, on the way home i tried revving it all the way out in 1st gear and noticed it would really struggle to reach 7000 rpms, while it used to rev straight to redline [7300 rpm] so quick I thought I was getting wheelspin or clutchslip.

Anyone know the problem? The engine in question is a Jap spec 3SGE from an SW20 MR2. It's late so I can't be stuffed checking now. But tomorrow I'll be taking a look at the spark plugs and air filter. The only other thing I can think of is timing. I don't know that much about mechanics, so that's all I can think of. Just wanna know if there's anything else I should check before I take it to mechanics tomorrow night.

The most likely cause for this kind of thing in MR2's is bad plug's leads or dizzy cap.

However I guess if you're running the origonal dizzy then it would be in the heater box so we'll need to know what kind of management you're running and if you're running the original stuff where is the distributor?

um it's mounted at the front of the head.

it's actually in my ae86.

anyways i wouldn't be surprised if it were the dizzy, as it sounds identical to when my 4ac in my old car ran slow due to the dizzy. However in this car, I still have my low end torque so it's still driveable.

O well, i'll go check it soon

if its happened suddenly i'd say its spark or it neing outta tune...

but if its happened over a while i'd say its just wear and tear from taking it to 7000rpm Confused
