Hi All,
You know when you buy those mufflers that have that tube thing that can be installed and removed. Makes the exhaust quieter and can be adjusted. Is that bad for the car Sad Sad

Just got an exhaust, and it's way to loud for what i wanted. So now i drive with the silencer on all the time.

Is there any way to make it quieter without having to install a 2nd muffler??? i've still got the stock resonator installed. I heard a longer resonator will make it quieter. Is this true???

Help!!

yeah i too have a loud exuast, it was a 3" exuast with a 4" muffler when i buaght it, it drones bad! you get hearing fatigue after awhile.

what are these silencer things you mention? are they expensive or hard to install? also do they affect performance?

thanx, Chris

a silencer is just a smaller piece of pipe attached to a funnel sorta shape that sits snug inside the exhaust tip. restricts the flow and the noise. very easy to install and quite cheap, any exhaust shop can make em

so that would be bad idea to add to a turbo setup?.
Is there any way to silence a turbo exuast without restricting flow?

hehe ... the million dollar question

mufflers are the cheapest most effective way to make an exhaust quiet ....but restrict airflow alot

apparently true resonators have VERY minimal restriction while quietening the exhaust too.....so yeah adding a 2nd resonator will make it quieter with minimal restriction

its not that bad, doesnt restrict it that much.
there are many exhausts out there that flow very well but are still fairly quiet, its just finding the right one

is there anyway you use a higher quality aftermarket exhaust mounts or insulate them to reduce the reverberations inside the cabin?

i have a blitz nur spec exhaust that comes with a silencer.
when i had it dyno'd i got 193kw,then i put on the silencer that came with it and only lost 3 kw,i got 190kw with it ON.
So i think 3kw is not that bad of a restriction considering it silenced it a fair bit,and would be able to cruise around without the worry of getting defected.
So i think a loss of 3kw is worth not having the hassle on the streets, and just rip it out on a group cruise/e.creek/dyno's ect.

dan, a hot dog is a resonator, these guys are talking about an insert that goes inside the outlet pipe of the exhaust (creates backpressure which improves muffler performance)

they do Smile
resonators are just another way (albiet a far more common way) of silencing exhaust output

cheers
