Oil-pressure problem 3T-GT

I think i might have found the oil-pressure problem (the oil-warning light was flickering on), there seemed to be a steady flow of oil out of what seems to be a pressure relief valve on the driver's side of the head, just below the cam cover (it's a hexagonal shaped thing about three inches long with a hole at the end and ribs near the base). Even at idle there was a small flow out of this, I can only imagine that under load (when the oil warning light came on) there must have been a decent bit more coming through and dropping the pressure. Anyone know anything about these and whether this could be the problem (it would seem logical and I have been having a leak that was difficult to track down)? Can these be rebuilt or repaired? Are they common to other T series engines (ie: can I go down the road and buy one that's suitable)? A few people have mentioned the relief-valve inside the oil-pump could be worn or stuck but I'm not sure if this could explain the oil-leak (though they could quite possibly be occuring together). Thanks for your help guys. Chris.

Got that valve apart and found the washer in it was worn down to about half the size it should be, so hopefully I've found the problem. I'll make up a new washer and see how it goes.

That hexigon thing that is 3" long sticking out of the head, is actualy the top chain tensioner. It has a spring in it for the top chain tension, but also used oil to take up further slack when the engine is running. It is common for this to leak out the middle of the adjuster after a few years. Take it out, and aprat, and replace the O-ring. That will fix it if you know what you are doing. You then need to adjust chain tension again. Need about 1.5mm clearance. Read the manual. This adjuster is common to 18R-G, 2T-G, 2T-GEU and 3T-GTEU engines. Also similar to some 5M engines and things like that. The local parts store will have nothing for you, except the o-ring.
Your oil pressure problem is another problem. Maybe the oil pump is worn out of something, or the bearings are old. You sort of have to rebuild the motor to fix this.

also take off cam cover and have a look at the back of the cams the welsh plugs might of blown out that will create low oil pressure

Cool, cheers guys. I'm starting to think it may be a pump problem, is there anything that can be done about this? I'm still trying to track down a persistant leak, still dropping significant amounts of oil but I'm having a lot of trouble finding the cause. I'm guessing this is related to the pressure problem but...? Whereabouts is the oil-pump located? Is there a gasket between it and the block that could be having problems? I've never had oil problems before so I've never had to investigate that side of things much so sorry if my questions are a little ignorant. Oh, and just in case they're not readily apparant, what do these plugs look like? - (I'll probably be able to recognise them but just in case (and to save time)Cheers, Chris.
