Registered Locosts

Hello All,
Ive recently purchased Ron Champions 'Build your own Sports Car' and I must say it is rather good. Needless to say Im making one.
I was just going to build one as a budget events car (Hillclimbs, Kahna's & Occasional track work). but nontheless Ive got the ADR's for one-off vehicles. At first they look daunting, but reading closer they're to too bad. Just some thought, planning and a little extra cost (also $1200 worth of engineering report)
So Im gonna aim to build a fully road registered Locost.
Does anyone know of any registered Locosts currently in Australia? (ive found a couple, but the more he merrier)

That sounds like an unreal idea, but it's gotta be asked, WTF is a locost? What sorta motor can you use in them?
Let us know how you go, this is definitely something I'd like to do when I'm a bit older, and a bit more cashed up.

Would a Shelby Cobra replica be a locost as well? Been dreaming of building one for 15 years. 2JZGTE or 1UZFE(TT) powered Cobra - only a dream for now .

PRB's are the most sporting variant of these types of kits , and they do come with certain advantages in relation to passing for rego.
check the website .

A locost is a Lotus 7 replica. But unlike a kit-car it is built from the ground up. Ie you fabricate the chassis, suspension arms etc. It actually comes from the book by Ron Champion(if my scanner worked i could scan some pics in). His son wanted a Lotus 7 replica but they're a a tad on the expensive side, thus the Low Cost (Locost - get it ha, ha erm...) project was born.
One of the better things about the Locost is that it can be tailoered to the bulders requirements.
Ive been thinking that it would be better to build it in stages and get each stage approved engineer wise. Of course my chassis will probably be another 30% heavier with bracing to cope with supposed strength issues.
Another problem is the ADR that is supposedly coming in is the use of brand new Aussie market engines, no more ex Jap 20valves (bastards).
Taking all thic into account its probably better to call it a ModerateCost, but it still works out cheaper than a 'Kit-Car'
If it all gets too hard i may even just keep it as a dedicated events car.
