icon5.gif  1JZ-GTE in RA65? Wed, 03 July 2002 15:04 Go to next message
Ok, after looking at the web site i noticed it says u can fit a 1j into the ra65...

after looking at sizes and so on... it seems that the radiator would have to be mounted out the front?

and i have sourced a motor and it is close to me... 81,000 on the clock and its a manual... they want $3800 for it.. but i rekon i can get him to $3300 if i waved the cash.

my big question is... what would i need done to the car to make this fit.... e.g. does the diff and drive line and all that underbody stuff need to be changed? dash instruments? gearbox mounts?

if i had $8000 do u think i could get this conversion done? so really im paying $4200 in labour and other parts.... would that cut it?.... im very serious about this and need to know what needs to be done... i want to be different

Thanks

Skids

p.s. Is there any one else in Australia with this mod done?

I'd imagine it'd be fairly hard to fit lengthways...but with $$ anything is possible.

The transmission tunnel would have to be bashed out or made wider and the gearstick would come out a couple of inches further back. The R154 is a BIG bastard! Nod Nod

I'd imagine it wouldn't be the best for the car in terms of handling having such a big lump of iron so far towards the front...the car would go like an arrow...a lead tipped one mind you...but an arrow in a straight line. It'd take serious suspension work to get it handling respectably.

You'll need a front sump as well to clear the crossmember...umm, I think thats about it. Everyone feel free to add.

sell the RA65 and buy a MA61, it'll make your job so much easier and you'll get more mod cons..

Although you will still have to widen the tunnel Smile

I think it'll be more than $4200 in labour and parts.... It's a very labour intensive conversion....

Why a 1JZ-GTE BTW? Have you thought about the problems it'll cause to the balance of the car?

Also, what gearbox are you gonna use?

Ah, I missed that...

Yup, definately $4200 ain't gonna be enough.

If you're gonna spend that much money, might as well go for the 3S-GTE and have a car that'll still take corners fast.

I reckon it could be done for that money, if you started with an MA61 chassis. Starting with an RA65 will make it unnecessarily painful and the end result won't be as good. Having done several engine conversions, I'm a big believer in anything that makes the job easier! Smile

Haha, that was my thinking for my 1UZ conversion. Finding a MA61 to put it into first. I must have been talking to you too long Norbie! Razz
