Help with my alternator

I have a YM21 toyota liteace (1985) and the alternator just went on it. The engine is a 2Y-C. I've traded the old alternator in for another one off a 3Y (could of been 3Y-C). It's in there now and seems to work as the voltage at the battery is 14.10 volts when the engine is running. But the funny thing is the charge light is still on for some reason.
What could I do to fix it so that the charge light goes off???
Also when I had the cabin light on and revved the car I noticed the light, light up brighter and dimmed down when the engine revs were lower. Should I be conserned about this???
Thanks in advance

make sure the wire for the charge light is on, some alternators just dont charge at idle, so it'll have like 12.0V at idle but when revved slightly it'll start charging and go up to say 14.0V, my car does that

your charge light should be off at all time, EVEN AT IDLE. you may have a interenal regulator, which means that its inside the alternator, or you may have and external which is self explanitary, im not sure about your model but you will have one of the two.
check that the altinator belt is tight and check that the charge light wire off the altinator has not fallen off, if so just plug it back in away you go. if the belt is loose, it will mean that the altinator pully will slip and will reduce the amount of charge that you are recieving, just cause you have 14.v of surface charge in you battery does not mean that it will remain that way when put under load.

Since your battery volts is 14, this proves your alternator is charging ie the "idiot" charge light is telling lies!
Easy fix is disconnect the light. No problem!
..or proper fix is to find why..could be wiring error (diff model), faulty indicator driver or short to ground.
Or fit a voltmeter.

ok... it only stays at 14v at the battery on idle. Once u start revving the voltage goes up. Well the alternator I got off a 3Y engine didn't have a internal regulator and I thought that was my problem. So instead I got my alternator reconditioned. Put it in and in the exact situation. It charges but it's not regulating. My van is made on the border line of when they changed over from external regulators to internal ones. I can see the voltage regulator box near the clutch pedal... is that the only voltage regulator in the system?? My importantly is that the one that regulates the battery voltage??
