It's the GEN 4 (sic mate, that's better than Habib's commodore...) 3SGE, fitted (as far as I know!) to ST204 celicas, Altezza's, Caldina's and a few other things I don't even know the names of  3SGE with VVTi, better head, intake manifold, etc. so that it's capable of a few revs, unlike the earlier, less exciting versions. I nearly bought one myself, but after an *unnamed place* 'lost' it (how does one lose an engine???), I decided to go turbo... silly me

they were fitted to the last model ST202in japan only and last 6months in SW20 but were single VVTI only and fwd motors

Check out that link for all the info.
The only update is that the engine is nearly in for good now, and the only mod we'll have to do on top of what is mentioned there is that a rib on the underside of the bonnet will have to be flattened a little to clear the black plastic cam pulley cover.
Lots of fiddly crap to do though now ...
