hi, my sx rolla has started blowing a little more white smoke than normal. not just when it is cold either, although eventually when the car is warm it will stop. eg. i drive 30kms during the day and it will still be doing it, it seems to happen more in between gears and when i accelerate in first and second. I was first told to replace the air filter but that didn't seem to do a real lot, any ideas?
also, are the sv2x camrys ment to be badged twincam16?

Maybe its valve seals... they tend to cause you to blow white smoke until your car reaches a decent temp and then it will go away...
Just a thought

Yeah theres this thing we call a "tk" tester...not sure how many ppl have heard of this
u put this chamber filled with a blue dye above your radiator...(when your car is warm)....and the blue dye turns green then yellow on contact with CO2 (Carbon Dioxide)...this will determine whether u have a leak into the radiator and POSSIBLY vice versa
find out if a workshop near u has one..
another easy way is to take the radiator cap off and see if theres a brown milky substance there
how long has it been doing that for ?
mind u those 2 techniques above check for leaks into the radiator but not leaks into the combustion chamber
but USUALLY it leaks both ways
if u leaeve it for 2 long u can warp the head i think

thanks, i'll got check for the brown milky substance in a minute
my car has been blowing the excess white smoke for a while now (roughly 2 months) but in the last couple of weeks it has become more noticable. Although the car hasn't been driven much in this period of time (roughly 70kms a week).

Gday,
My old ae92 sx 16valve 4age started blowing black smoke back before i got rid of it, as far as know if it's the valve stem seals or something like that the smoke will be black and leave a black oily carbony mess on your rear bumper near the muffler..
Blowing a lot of white steamy smoke when starting and that sounds a lot like water leaky head gasket to me also. My mate stuffed his 4ac just two weeks ago, between gears it would let off a nice big steamy white puff and actually when the car just sat there and idled, it blew way too much white smoke than it should. Head gasket fixed it no worries.
Not sure if this helps,
Seeks.

I had a look in my radiator yesterday afternoon and it is still just ordinaty coolant (no oil or milkyness) and the other thing was that it hadn't used a single bit of water, does anyone else have any ideas? it just seems strange that it blows twice as much white smoke/steam as any other car and goes on for at least 30kms. I am going to take my car in for a tune very soon so i will see how that goes.

Silly question but i HAVE to ask it to make sure
Did u look in the reservoir or in the Radiator ?
It wouldnt be valve stem seals as that would be burning oil ?
Hence blue smoke
unless u have a pool in your exhaust system u HAVE to be burning water am i not right ?

yeah i checked both the reservoir and the Radiator. I always check the radiator aswell because on my old celica the radiator cap had a small leak so the reservoir was always full and the radiator just sucked air through the leak. I have no idea what the problem is, as far as i know white smoke = water but it doesn't seem to be using any water I have had a close look a few times and it is definately white smoke or steam. anyhow, i'll take it in for a tuneup later this week and see what i can come up with after that.

IF your 100% sure that theres no water loss
Then MAYBE theres water in your tank ?
apparently its a good idea to put 1 litre of methylated spirits in your tank Once a year at least to get rid of the water
apparently the metho lets the water mix so it can be burned away
possible ?
